On the latest episode of Speakin’ Geek Steve and Graham look back on the legacy of the cinematic Spider-Men who have donned the red and blue spandex and wielded the spidey powers that only a Spider-Man can. They discuss the beginning of his cinematic journey in 2002 all the way up to this year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The lads chat about how ahead of its time the first film was. Helmed by Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi the first Spider-Man film was a different affair to most superhero films that came before it. It spawned what is still considered to this day one of the most iconic superhero films of all times, sadly though it was followed up with what is possibly the biggest turd in superhero cinematic history. After that came Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield as everyone’s favourite web slinger. This new incarnation of the hero came with a ton of chemistry and charm and gave us a fantastic Gwen Stacy in the form of La La Land’s Emma Stone. This incarnation only lasted two films before a deal was struck with Marvel to reintroduce Spidey into the MCU and that brings us to Spider-Man: Homecoming.
This episode is a lot of fun and there’s a sprinkle of nostalgia thrown in as Graham and Steve also look back on two of the most iconic animated Spider-Man series from the 90’s and 00’s. Fans of everyone’s favourite wall-crawler should definitely give this episode a listen.
