In surprising news that came from Netflix today, the cult RPG hit Dragon’s Dogma will be making its Netflix debut later this year.
But what is Dragon’s Dogma and why should we be excited?
For those not in the know, Dragon’s Dogma is an action role-playing hack and slash video game developed and published by Capcom for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 back in 2012. An enhanced version subtitled Dark Arisen was released for the game’s original consoles in 2013.
The game was then later ported to Microsoft Windows in 2016, PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One in 2017, and Nintendo Switch last year.
Now the game was adored for its gameplay mechanic but the story was found lacking. What this means for the Netflix series is unsure at the moment as we don’t know much about the series save that it’s going to be released on Netflix on September 17th.
There is a vague description of what we may expect from the story in the Twitter announcement so check that out below:
Only the Arisen can face the Dragon and defeat the apocalypse. Here’s your first look at the anime series adaptation of Capcom’s action fantasy classic Dragon’s Dogma, arriving September 17th. pic.twitter.com/UxJMcUrsdp

The Dragon’s Dogma series will be brought to Netflix by the animation studio Sublimation, one of several Japanese animation studios that Netflix partnered with last year. Sublimation specialises in the use of CG animation. However, Netflix announced that the show would mix in more traditional 2D animation as well.
What I personally would hope this means is that we’ll get another series in the same vein as Castlevania which was a surprise hit when it came out in 2017.
So there you go ladies and gentlemen Dragon’s Dogma is coming to Netflix. Will it be a hit? Who knows, all I know is I love dragon’s and the dragon in that game was pretty kick ass.
