Guess who’s back! Yes, friends, the horror queen has returned! Today, I’m going to be talking about a demo. A spooky demo! Of course, I was going to return with horror, dear friends. In the last week, I was catching up on things I’d missed. One of those was the demo for an upcoming horror mystery game called Alan Sharp. When I say this majorly slipped under my radar, I mean by months. I am ashamed. But hey, I got there eventually. And oh my, I am glad that I did.
So, what is Alan Sharp?
Get into the shoes of Alan Sharp, a private detective in the 1970s. Alan has retired, left shattered by the death of a loved one. However, a call from an old friend will bring the detective back on track, to a small town where tragedy has struck. The butchering of a young boy. The game is first-person, driven by the story and character development. The focus is on exploration, survival and puzzle-solving in a semi open-world.
The demo gives us a chance to play the first chapter, the prologue. Step into the shoes of Sam Whithers, ex-assistant of the legendary detective Alan Sharp. Sam arrives at the crime scene before Alan and begins to unfold the horrible events that took place. On top of his investigation, Sam must face the demons of his past, putting his own sanity into jeopardy.
How Sharp is the demo?
I’m going to be straight up here guys. I have been massively burnt out in every sense, even with horror. And then I saw the devs of Alan Sharp tweeting about the game’s demo. So, why not give it a shot? I feel rejuvenated with horror right now, and it is totally thanks to this demo. So, let’s get into it.
There is something about this game that immediately caught my attention. The opening scene had me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know what was about to happen. No spoilers, but the way the scene ends before gameplay starts is so masterfully done. If this was a movie, I would be glued to the screen instead of scrolling Facebook on my phone. That’s besides the point though.
This demo has done something that a lot of demos fail to do nowadays (sorry guys). Enough of the story is brought forward to make things interesting, but not enough to take away the charm. I am left wanting more, eagerly awaiting the full release on April 29th. I really don’t want to give too much away, because there is so much promise for this game. My inner Jessica Fletcher is prepared.
