It was E3 this past weekend and Brian sat down like many gamers across the world. He took in all that Ubisoft had to offer this year and he has thoughts. Some of them good, some of them bad. He takes a look and lets you know what he thinks.

Ubisoft showed off a fair bit at E3 this year, but was any of it interesting or surprising? I don’t really think. Check out Brian’s video and let us know what you think. And if you enjoy his breakdown let us know. We’ll be sure to make more.

Brian discusses the following titles revealed at E3:

  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
  • Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction
  • Riders Republic
  • Rocksmith+
  • Just Dance  2022
  • Far Cry 6
  • Further content for Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
  • Watch Dog’s: Legion – Bloodline

As you can see it’s a lot of content, but was it quality content? If there are any titles I’d be interested in personally it be Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. That may be because I’ve recently fallen in love with Ragnarok on Netflix.

24 Entertainment has announced that Naraka: Bladepoint will be a part of E3 this year. With a 10-minute segment during the NetEase show on June 13th and a segment in the PC Gaming Show later that day.

After a hugely successful open beta, 24 Entertainment will not only reveal the release date of the Naraka: Bladepoint but also the dates for their next open beta — to be held this summer. Returning players will once again explore, and fight for their lives, on the island of Morus; where there will be new and, as yet unrevealed, content to experience ahead of Naraka: Bladepoint’s release later this year. This also gives anyone who didn’t get a shot at the closed beta something to whet their appetites until release.

Please tune in at one of the following streaming platforms, June 13th at 9:30 am PDT (17:30 pm UK, 18:30 pm Paris) to watch the Naraka: Bladepoint Show live.

It’s exciting to see this. We’ve been watching the development of this game for a while now and to see it getting so close now is such a surreal moment. Hopefully Naraka: Bladepoint will turn a few more heads at E3 this weekend. I think it will personally. The combat alone is fascinating and the design of the world has always been picturesque as well as brutal.

Another year, another selection of press conferences at E3 designed to separate our hard-earned cash from our clutches. From Keanu Reeves to Banjo-Kazooie it’s been quite the ride, with highs, lows, sighs, and other such noises. With the end of Nintendo’s Digital Event, all the major showings are over so now we look back and see what titles really impressed the good people of GamEir.

Niall – Breath of the Wild Sequel

My favourite game of all time is Majora’s Mask. Building off of the far more popular Ocarina of Time Majora went in a completely different direction. Where Ocarina focused on jolly adventuring Majora went for apocalyptic nightmare fuel and melancholy.  With that in mind, the trailer for the newest Zelda shows a much darker and creepier tone than it’s predecessor, as Link and Zelda dabble in grave-robbing.

As Brendan Fraser would tell you this ends poorly as an ancient mummy (Ganon?) comes to life and starts to magically elevate Hyrule Castle. I don’t want to sound prejudiced but I doubt this dead dude has benevolent intentions.

My love of the Zelda series has always stemmed from how unafraid it is to get weird and shake things up so I hope this title has plenty of those surprises up its sleeve. The giant buffalo, discordant hell music and Zelda’s sweet new hairdo are enough to make this my new most anticipated game. Give me my main man Tingle and this will be the best game of all time.

Graham – Final Fantasy VII Remake

I mean come on guys it’s obviously Final Fantasy VII Remake. The fact that Cloud and the gang are coming back made me feel quite emotional. Seeing those iconic moments reimagined at this years E3 was absolutely fantastic.

What got me were the little touches:

  • The fact that you can see the materia (and it’s colour) within the slot on Cloud’s Buster Sword as well as Barrett’s gun arm.
  • Tifa’s new design and her amazing stylised fighting abilities.
  • The expansion of the motorbike section with Avalanche.
  • The improved boss battles which look incredibly cinematic.

As well as the iconic moments there were a few times where the story seems to have evolved. The most significant element was the interaction between Cloud and Sephiroth. This moment did not happen in the original but it is a welcome change.

The battle system looks promising, the score is suitably epic, and the character designs pop. As a great man loved to exclaim, “Nuff said!”

Dave – Elden Ring

A few weeks ago, the existence of a new Fromsoftware game was confirmed. We heard two things, they were working on an open world Norse mythology-inspired game and George R. R. Martin was helping to create the story. Do we even need more incentive than that? At E3 we learned its name; Elden Ring. The Xbox conference gave us a cinematic trailer much in the vein of first trailers for previous Fromsoft games. It paints a picture of a dark and mystical world, full of Norse and Celtic inspiration.

Fromsoftware has a habit of creating their own takes on mythology and I expect this game to do just that. In press releases since then, Miyazaki himself has said that Elden Ring is the biggest game they have ever built, and it is a broader action RPG than any of their previous games.

Unconfirmed are the rumours that the game will include horse riding and travelling to different kingdoms, but those things are certainly in line with what we know to be true. Fromsoftware has become the kind of developer who has my money for life, and having the credibility of George R. R. Martin on board is just gravy. I cannot wait to know more about this game.

Brian – Ghost Recon: Breakpoint

Shane f**kin Walsh. Frank f**kin Castle. And now, Cole D. F**kin Walker. When a digitized Jon Bernthal shows up on screen, you know things are about to kick off. When real life Jon Bernthal shows up, with his dog (Bam Bam), s**t just got real. Of all the keynotes and pressers at E3 2019, two will stand out in my memory. First, Keanu Reeves. Second, and more so than the first, Jon Bernthals appearance. We’ve all been Bernthal fans since The Walking Dead, and we delighted at his turn as Frank Castle in The Punisher. Now, as Cole D. Walker, a rogue Ghost agent in upcoming Tom Clancy game Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Bernthal can get to grips with another multi-faceted tough guy. In Bernthal’s own words from E3:

…Cole D. Walker. A skilled, former special operations soldier, with his own sense of responsibility, and his own moral code… He loves his fellow soldiers, his brothers, but he is willing to do whatever it takes to complete his mission… We’ve got the numbers, we’ve got the organisation, and remember; we trained alongside you…

While other media for Ghost Recon: Breakpoint serves to highlight mechanics, graphics, game-play etc., what Walkers introduction cinematic does, is give us context. It immerses us into this world. Walker and his “Wolves” aren’t “bad guys”; they’re actually us. The difference being, something changed for them. Some intangible motivation flicked over. While games in this genre rarely, if ever, question the morality of these black ops units, a character like this can highlight the murky grey area these soldiers actually inhabit. There have been two points in my life when I genuinely wanted the good guys to lose. First, Gen. Francis X. Hummel (Ed Harris) in The Rock. The second, will be Cole D. F**kin Walker.

Steve – Everything but Microsoft

E3 2019 has come and gone. In my opinion it was Microsoft’s to win and they did not turn up at all. Some games I found interesting, but the “reveal” of their new console was the weakest I have ever seen. They were never able to keep me engaged and wanting to see more. Which I found most disappointing.

The biggest highlight to me is Keanu in Cyberpunk 2077. It is a fitting and cool move and he is just the best the human race has to offer. Hearing that his character will have the biggest side character questline has gotten me even more hyped. Now where can I get the collectors edition in Ireland?

An honourary mention goes out to the kickass old lady Helen of Watch Dogs Legion. Please Ubisoft let me fight the system with an army of high tech pensioners!

The race for best presentation was a hard fought race between Devolver, Square-Enix and Nintendo. Thanks to the big N’s (Nintendo) strong direct ending with a tease for the first ever direct sequel to a main line Zelda, in my opinion they beat out the competition. This tease has my Zelda fan heart throbbing. It is alluding to a potential for coop or even having Zelda as the hero. So many questions that I cannot wait to find the answers for. Overall, I feel this has been the weakest E3 in a good few years, but the highlights shine all the brighter.

Having played Destroy All Humans! when released back on 2005 I was pleasantly impressed and kept busy for many hours. So you can only imagine my excitement when I heard there’s a remake of it in the works. However, that made me think what was fun to play back in 2005 may not necessarily hold up today.

The maps of the original are tiny compared to the maps we are used to of open world games now. Some functionality would be quite outdated in today’s modern controls. I’m glad to say that developer Black Forest Games has taken that into consideration for the game.

While keeping the story line and voice work fairly similar they have totally reworked cut scenes, controls and a few other things too.

The Flying Saucer is Powered by Unreal Engine 4

With the remake of Destroy All Humans! being handled in Unreal Engine 4, every asset has been redone from the ground up and it’s up to scratch with current visuals in games while still keeping it’s 50’s style.

Adding new controls to Crypto and the flying saucer there is plenty of promise in a fun game for us to play when we get our hands on it. Dennis Schiefer a producer in Black Forest Games went into detail about how they had to create and design certain models in order to maintain the  original feeling people remember about the 2005 version. Putting particular care into Crypto’s look, they even did new motion capture and facial capture for cut scenes.

The Original and Then Some

What I was impressed by on the team working on Destroy All Humans! was their desire to keep to the voice work the exact same even to the point of working with some of the original voice actors. For even extra brownie points it was incredible to find out that they went back to the original recordings and found enough unused lines for an entirely new level. This level set in Area 42 will use dialogue we’ve never heard before.

Welcome to the 50’s

If you’re not familiar with the game, Destroy All Humans! follows Cryptosporidium or Crypto for short, as he is tasked with obtaining human DNA to save the Furon race from destruction. Set in 1959 you come to earth to harvest all the DNA you can will simultaneously devastating the US army and government. Along the way you fall in love with Crypto’s sense of humour, love for anal probing and relentless destruction. I look forward to getting more info on this project and getting my hands on the final build for this game.

Grasshopper Manufacture has announced a 2020 release date for No More Heroes III, a brand new entry in the No More Heroes franchise exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, during Nintendo’s E3 2019 Nintendo Direct video presentation.

Taking place ten years after the original No More Heroes, No More Heroes III follows Travis Touchdown as he returns to his former home of Santa Destroy. There he encounters a huge artificial metropolis floating in the sea and a mysterious flying object high above the city. What crazy dangerous assassins will he have to face in this strange new world?

”After the Nintendo Switch unveiling conference in 2017, we released Travis Strikes Again this year, and now we are finally able to make the dream of No More Heroes III a reality,” says director Goichi Suda, or Suda51. “We’re working hard on development day in and day out to ensure that NMHIII goes above and beyond the expectations of all the fans who have been waiting for the game for so long, and we’re going to be rolling it out in 2020. May the Switch be with you!”

The Devolver Digital Big Fancy Press Conference 2019 continued the Devolver Digital E3 Press Conference Cinematic Universe (DDE3PCCU) and the senseless and revered violence that comes with modern-day E3 video game marketing events.

Announcements included everything from a massively multiplayer party game to a collection of original rip-off bootlegs to a legitimate arcade-light gun game and we can’t say we even know what we are doing anymore. But at least we’re trying to have some fun.

Fall Guys, Developed by Mediatonic

During Square Enix Live E3 2019, the company announced that Oninaki, the latest action-RPG developed by the talented Tokyo RPG Factory team, will debut digitally on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and STEAM on August 22nd.

Oninaki is the third title from Tokyo RPG Factory and the studio’s first foray into the action RPG genre, sustaining the studio’s mission in taking inspiration from classic Japanese role-playing games to create a captivating experience on modern platforms.

Following the release of I Am Setsuna in 2016 and Lost Sphear in 2018, Oninaki encompasses an inspired art direction, deep character development, and a captivating storyline contributing to a unique, yet familiar JRPG experience.

In Oninaki, players will follow the story of Kagachi, a young watcher whose duty is to usher Lost Souls into the next world. After meeting a mysterious girl named Linne, his fate becomes entwined with blood and death. During the journey, players will also meet key characters like Kushi, an exemplary Watcher and trusted leader, Mayura, a Watcher with a kind heart, and the malicious Night Devil from a forgotten time.

Let’s get spiritual with Oninaki

I am so excited about this title. I’ve played I am Setsuna and my pants were charmed off. The battle system was fascinating. Not only that team builds on each title making the next one better than the one that came before. Knowing the level of care that is given to each title from Tokyo RPG Factory gives me a high level of confidence that when August rolls around a lot of people will be singing Oninaki’s praise.
