PlayFusion, the indie studio with a neon-drenched, 80s-infused, explosive AAA vision, has revealed the very first gameplay trailer for their upcoming, over-the-top shooter, Ascendant Infinity.

Claiming, “This isn’t your granddad’s FPS, unless he’s into brand spanking new 3v3v3v3 squad-based shooters with serious balls”. Ascendant Infinity is a shooter with supposedly game-changing Event-balls and extensive adrenaline-fueled Battle-balls.

What is an Adaption shooter, you ask? Well… think of an evolving team-based objective shooter where players must work together to not only overcome other teams, but also the ever shifting-world around them. Every time you go out, the map will be different.

Landscapes, extraction points, strategies, events, teams. None of them stay the same, constantly reshaping the battleground, forcing you to out-think, outmaneuver, and outshoot the poor bastards eyeing your biocores. That’s what makes an Adaption Shooter.

Players can sign up for the upcoming Closed Beta via https://www.ascendant.com/. When it begins, Closed Beta participants can look forward to experiencing;

  • Unpredictable Firefights – Every encounter is different and adaptation is key. The very structure of the world will shift around you with each new visit, so learning to adapt is paramount to both your survival and your success.
  • Your game, your way – Customisation is a fundamental part of the Ascendant Infinity experience. Dress and fight how you want with thousands of potential customisation options to choose from. Be a fashionista, or go for a bright and bold look, just so your adversaries know exactly who took them down. No matter what you choose, it’ll have blood all over it soon enough.

Ascendant Infinity is available to wishlist on Steam and Epic Store right now. Find out more on the game’s official Discord.

Scathe is an adrenaline-fueled, retro FPS with big guns and even bigger demons. You play as Scathe, Enforcer of the legions of Hell, forged from the earth by the Divine Creator themself. And you, like your fallen kin before you, must prove your worth by navigating a deviously crafted maze, entangled with demonic evil at every twist and turn. So, grab your Hellhammer, lock’n’load and get ready to unleash your almighty fury.

  • Bullet Hell Scathe is not your ordinary FPS… Get ready for bullet hell where you must dodge countless waves of deadly projectiles. Use Scathe’s incredible speed, you can dash through danger. Keeping on the move is the key to survival.
  • Lock’N’Load – Rip through your enemies with Scathe’s insanely powerful arsenal of weapons, each equipped with a devastating secondary fire. Spew hellfire with the Hot Hatch or slice through endless evil with the buzz saw launcher, Bow Blade.
  • Drop in/Drop out online multiplayerScathe will support full cross-play online multiplayer where players can drop in and drop out at any time. Already lost deep within the labyrinth? Call upon up to three friends to join the fight. Choose your kin wisely, because, in Scathe, everyone shares the same pool of lives.

Bright Memory: Infinite is a First Person Shooter. It’s fine. That pretty much could be the review.

In all honesty, the game does very little egregiously wrong. The visuals are basic at times, really impressive and at other times not horrendous. The gameplay is simple if a little awkward and the storyline is unremarkable if a little too convoluted.  It is the epitome of an average game.

What’s the Story?

As I hinted previously, the storyline is a little short of unfollowable malarkey.  Set in the year 2036, you play as Sheila, a woman who is part of the SSRO (Supernatural Science Research Organisation) who is doing something to research a certain phenomenon affecting the skies above the earth. Plus something, something wormholes that need to save the earth from a zombie emperor.

It’s genuinely that nonsensical.  I’m not sure if it is something that is lost in translation, but it is absolutely jarring when trying to connect with your character and immerse yourself into the story. If you cannot connect with a game’s narrative then you would at least hope that the gameplay would be especially engaging.

Thankfully, the gameplay is… for a while.  As is standard for nearly all First Person Shooters, the controls are intuitive and predictable.  There are no major surprises and the standard trigger buttons, jump buttons and action buttons are in play and will feel very familiar to anyone who has ever played a first-person shooter before.

The combat sees you use a variety of weapons; changing from shotgun, machine gun, pistol to samurai sword with reckless abandon. The alternation from gunplay to hack-and-slash melee is done with ease and it is undoubtedly fun for a while. Unfortunately, the enemies do lack variety and the enjoyment of dispatching them using the various weapons becomes a little tedious after witnessing the same death animation over and over again. To combat this though, they do introduce different weapons as you progress in order to add a little variety.

Bright Memory or Something to Forget?

The hit-markers when shooting enemies and the feeling of “heft” with the various weaponry feel a little dated. The “wall running mechanics” are a little hit and miss but it still can’t be derided as being actively “bad”.

With regards to the graphics, they aren’t exactly perfect but at times they are very impressive. It seems a lot more care has gone into the environment than has gone into the character models. They certainly could have been given a bit more of a polish, especially when standing against some fantastically rendered backgrounds.

Bright Memory: Infinite doesn’t play like a current-gen First Person Shooter, and it wouldn’t have looked out of place on a last-gen console. Yet you can’t call it below par either on its visuals or on the gaming mechanics.  It is just very average.

And I think therein lies the issue.

There are glimpses of quality throughout the game.  It’s fast, it’s exciting for a time, but that is contrasted alongside the extraordinarily complicated storyline.  Added to that is the fact that the game has an unforgivable and ridiculously short running time. It wouldn’t be impossible to get through the entire campaign in under 3 hours (and that’s being generous). The game doesn’t give itself the chance to expand on all the things that it does right, and because of that, it only accentuates what it has done wrong.

This game has all the hallmarks of a “what-if”. It probably would never have been a classic, but it certainly could be a lot better than what it is.

A new trailer has been unveiled for co-op FPS survival horror Sker Ritual. Fans of horror Maid of Sker (we have our review here) this spiritual successor brings back a lot of what you loved. Not only that though the world has been expanded on. This is a 1-4 player co-op experience where you and your friends face off against hordes of new and familiar monsters.

As well as supercharged elites with unique supernatural powers, you can upgrade your steam-punk style weapons, there are also interchangeable spine-chilling masks and mysterious story objectives from the writing talent behind Maid of Sker, Battlefield 1 and Total War: Rome II.

There are several key details when preparing for Sker Ritual:

The battle you face will scale according to how many players you have on your team. Which is a great feature that will ensure you’ll be given the best chance at survival.

The Elites have returned and this time they’ve brought with them a whole host of new skills and friends. These many creatures want to bring your destruction. Can you and your friends handle it?

If you want to have your own twisted fun with your teammates you can. There is a level of customisation to enhance your enjoyment. You can taunt your teammates with unique voice lines and switch out your dynamic menu scene environments from the Island. As well cosmetics though there are unique and upgradeable weapons to bring the pain to the hordes you will face.

Sker Ritual is coming to PC (Steam) this summer, with a new-gen launch later in the year.

Early access release strikes again! This time, I’m going to be talking about Stuffed, from Waving Bear Studio. The premise behind one is pretty simple. You play as a teddy bear, fighting enemies in the dreams of a little girl. Naturally, I was super sold on this idea. Mostly the teddy bear part. What can I say? I’m a simple woman.

What is Stuffed?

At its core, Stuffed is a first person shooter on procedurally generated maps. Protect the bedroom door while waves of enemies come through a wardrobe portal. That’s the best way I can think to describe it. You can open doors to unlock more  areas, and fast travel through portals between them. Along the way, you pick up new weapons and can level up your stats.

The game can also be played solo, or through multiplayer, both local and online.

Stuffed ideas?

Unfortunately, I found Stuffed to be lacking in almost every department. Although the premise has potential, at this point in time it completely lacks substance. Well, for me at least. It’s just waves of enemies. There’s nothing else to it. I will admit, I didn’t have high expectations. Aside from the bear being cute. Which it is. But other than that, I didn’t enjoy myself.

However, I do have a good idea of who this game would suit. This is very much the kind of game suited to a younger audience. Although technically an FPS, it’s totally harmless. Honestly, I feel this would be perfect for young people wanting to move into the FPS genre. There’s no blood or any real violence, and no means for any kind of graphic content. I never thought I would call an FPS child-friendly, but Stuffed very much is

Another selling point for parents in particular is the lack of micro-transactions in the game. You can buy new skins, but with in-game currency collected through playing.

To sum things up, Stuffed is a rather child-friendly shooter, but doesn’t offer a whole lot for an older audience. There is also potential for growth as the game progresses through early access, to an eventual full release.

Ubisoft has announced a new time-limited PvP event for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Containment. The event began yesterday and will run for three weeks until the 24th of August.

Inspired by the upcoming game Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction, Containment sets the players in a reworked version of the Consulate map overruled by the Chimera Parasite in a new game mode called Nest Destruction. Tom Cancy’s Rainbow Six Siege will also be free from the 13th of August to the 15th of August, where players can earn twice as many bonus Battle Pass points.

This event offers a tease into the world of Extraction in Rainbow Six Siege, where a team of REACT agents (attackers) will intervene to destroy Nests and will face a team of Proteans, a deadly Archæan variant that can adopt the form of REACT operators (defenders) and attempt to mimic their behaviour with maximum speed and with melee attacks only.

Defenders will be provided with additional Health, Aruni’s Punch, and Oryx’s special abilities, but will be weaponless for the whole game. Attackers will have a standard loadout without modifiers and only have access to a reduced Operators selection.

What is Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Containment?

Containment will introduce a new game mode, Nest Destruction, that will have players fight over a Nest. On one hand, attackers will be given a two-tiered objective scenario: destroy the nest to open the final objective and win the round. On the other hand, to be the victorious ones, defenders will have to rely on melee attacks and Oryx’s Ramah Dash to stop their opponents. Of course, there is always a last solution to secure the win – players can rely on the old but efficient way: get rid of the opposing team entirely.

The Containment event comes with its own collection of 33 unique items for Rainbow Six Siege operators including IQ, Ace, Blackbeard, Amaru and Zero on the attacking side, and Aruni, Jager, Kaid, Mira and Warden on the defending team.

The collection includes headgear, uniforms, and weapon skins. Each operator’s exclusive, time-limited customisation items are available for purchase as Bundles in the Shop section for 1680 R6 credits or via the Containment Packs for 300 R6 Credits or 12500 Renown.

DIRIGO Games has announced KINGDOM of the DEAD, an action-packed new horror-themed First Person Shooter. This new title will be coming to PC via Steam in early 2022.

KINGDOM of the DEAD is an interesting title. It blends old school FPS action with unique black and white pen and ink style visuals to create a terrifying gameplay world where players wage war in a deadly battle against Death’s ever-growing army. It’s fascinating to see that players will get to go up against Death itself and its legions.

Features of KINGDOM of the DEAD:

  • Unique black & white, hand-drawn visuals.
  • Classic FPS gameplay with different objectives at each difficulty level.
  • Hunt the undead hordes across remote locations along the US East Coast.
  • Equip 8 weapons and go toe to toe with over 22 undead enemies and face old school bosses.
  • Switch up your gameplay experience with a customizable colour palette and cheat code access.
  • Test your mettle and face off against a never-ending onslaught in the endless gameplay mode.

With such a disturbing design KINGDOM of the DEAD lends itself to something quite unnerving. It almost feels like a drained and detached DOOM title. You fighting against a horde of monstrous creatures. Add to this a genuinely unsettling aesthetic choice and you have a recipe for terror.
