This is not something I ever thought I would encounter. I’ve been playing Dead by Daylight since 2017. Never did I think I would be reporting on it receiving a movie adaptation, yet here we are. Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are teaming up with Behaviour Interactive to create a feature film of the hit video game. That’s right, Behaviour will be working alongside modern horror legends James Wan and Jason Blum.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am a HUGE horror movie fan. Wan and Blum have been responsible for some of my favourites, including The Conjuring, Insidious, Creep, Saw, and more. Both individually and as a team, these icons are good filmmakers. Although there are some misses among their libraries (we’re not going to talk about the Halloween reboots), in general you can expect decent quality.

But the thing is, Dead by Daylight isn’t your typical game. And video game movies are famously bad. And that’s coming from someone who enjoys the Milla Jovovich Resident Evil movies, and both Silent Hill movies. They aren’t good movies, but they’re fun. There’s a huge difference between those games and Dead by Daylight, however. They have a fairly linear story, an overarching plot, and follow a pretty basic story structure in general.

Dead by Daylight is a 4-v-1 asymmetrical multiplayer game. I genuinely do not see how this will work as a movie, even with genre powerhouses at the helm. Admittedly though, I am curious. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
