Ubisoft has revealed High Calibre, the fourth and final season of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Year 6. This new season includes a new Operator, Thorn, from Ireland. She is equipped with Razorbloom Shells and will bear a brand-new weapon, the UZK50Gi, in addition to the reworked Outback map and many other updates.

In High Calibre, players will discover a brand-new Defender, Thorn, equipped with Razorbloom Shells: throwable proximity devices that, once triggered, initiate a timed detonation. If enemy players don’t get out of the area of effect on time, they will receive damage at the end of the fuse timer. Thorn is a medium speed, medium armour operator who can be equipped with either the new UZK50Gi or the M870 as a primary weapon and with the 1911 TACOPS or the C75-AUTO as a secondary weapon.

In addition, the Outback map has been rebuilt to improve balancing and player comfort. Both the main building and its exterior have been modified. These modifications allow the attackers to create and execute more effective strategies. In addition, new exterior soft walls have been added to the building, and some areas have been refurbished and cleaned up to remove junk and provide better lines of sight and balance.

Additional updates coming for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege with High Calibre include:

  • Choosing team colours between blue, orange or red
  • Balancing updates (Finka, Echo and Mozzie’s drones, bulletproof cameras update, new rule for cameras placed outdoors)
  • New customisation features on Operators’ Cards, victory dances, colours and more.
  • New HUD
  • The new version of the Streamer Mode soft launch for a limited number of creators is coming during the season

The Test Server for High Calibre will go live today. The Test Server format has been updated and will now be open at three separate times throughout the season. The content will be split into three different releases.

The seasonal release TS contains the content that will be shipped with the season. The Lab TS release includes experimental content that will be used to test features in early production. Also, the TS balancing release contains the Operator and other balancing changes.

In Crystal Guard, players will discover a brand-new attacker: Osa, equipped with the Talon-8 shield, a deployable transparent shield that she can carry. Osa is armed with a 556xi or a PDW9 as a primary weapon and a PMM as a secondary weapon.

Players will have access to the reworked maps Coastline, Bank and Clubhouse. These maps had some modifications as closed windows, new alleys, more destructible parts, bomb site placement and more. Also, improvements have been made to the following operators: Finka, Sledge, Glaz, Iana, Twitch, IQ, Mute and Fuze among other updates.

In addition, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege will be available for free from today until the 12th of September on Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S. Year 6 Season 3 comes with a brand-new Battle Pass, including 100 tiers and 133 rewards, available until 23rd November. For the first time, the Battle Pass introduces a new reward: Battle Point Boosters, which are consumables that boost Battle Point gain by 20% when used at any time.

The Battle Pass includes a free and a Premium track available for 1200 R6 Credits. Owners of the Premium Battle Pass can play with Osa immediately and progress faster, while other players can unlock her with Renown or R6 Credits starting 21st September. Ubisoft has announced a new time-limited PvP event for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Containment. The event began yesterday and will run for three weeks until the 24th of August.

Inspired by the upcoming game Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction, Containment sets the players in a reworked version of the Consulate map overruled by the Chimera Parasite in a new game mode called Nest Destruction. Tom Cancy’s Rainbow Six Siege will also be free from the 13th of August to the 15th of August, where players can earn twice as many bonus Battle Pass points.

This event offers a tease into the world of Extraction in Rainbow Six Siege, where a team of REACT agents (attackers) will intervene to destroy Nests and will face a team of Proteans, a deadly Archæan variant that can adopt the form of REACT operators (defenders) and attempt to mimic their behaviour with maximum speed and with melee attacks only.

Defenders will be provided with additional Health, Aruni’s Punch, and Oryx’s special abilities, but will be weaponless for the whole game. Attackers will have a standard loadout without modifiers and only have access to a reduced Operators selection.

What is Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Containment?

Containment will introduce a new game mode, Nest Destruction, that will have players fight over a Nest. On one hand, attackers will be given a two-tiered objective scenario: destroy the nest to open the final objective and win the round. On the other hand, to be the victorious ones, defenders will have to rely on melee attacks and Oryx’s Ramah Dash to stop their opponents. Of course, there is always a last solution to secure the win – players can rely on the old but efficient way: get rid of the opposing team entirely.

The Containment event comes with its own collection of 33 unique items for Rainbow Six Siege operators including IQ, Ace, Blackbeard, Amaru and Zero on the attacking side, and Aruni, Jager, Kaid, Mira and Warden on the defending team.

The collection includes headgear, uniforms, and weapon skins. Each operator’s exclusive, time-limited customisation items are available for purchase as Bundles in the Shop section for 1680 R6 credits or via the Containment Packs for 300 R6 Credits or 12500 Renown.

As Rainbow Six Siege hits its 6th year since its release, we here at GamEir want to give you our hot take on gamings oldest and boldest comeback kid’s Year 6 content. So here’s all the new features, changes and balancing that’s to be expected in Rainbow Six Siege Year 6.

The Argentinian Job

Year 6 kicked off with Operation Crimson Heist (the 20th expansion of Rainbow Six). Right out of the gate, a new Argentinian operator called Flores has been introduced as part of Operation Crimson Heist. Flores’ kit has a new type of drone called the RCE-RATERO, which is basically a drone with a stick of dynamite.

When you deploy the drone a timer starts, when the timer runs out (either by activating it or when the timer runs out), the drone goes into detonation mode, anchors itself onto any surface, becomes bulletproof and detonates in 3 seconds. Flores seems more of a cute one-trick operator to me, but nonetheless, I see his utility in countering Mute’s Jammers or Mozzie’s pests if the situation calls for it. And no you will not get many kills with his drone, as the 3-second detonation timer will give any competent defender enough time to get out of the blast zone. Flores is available for 25,000 Renown, 600 R6 Credits or as the first unlock for the Battle Pass, speaking of which……

You get a Battle Pass and you get a Battle Pass

Year Six has done away with the traditional Season Pass, in favour of a new Battle Pass. This is a welcome change, allowing you to unlock the new operator (and an estimated 31 alpha packs, and a tonne of weapon and operator skins!) as you progress through the passes tiers. The Battle Pass will last from 16th March 2021 until the 25th May 2021, giving you 70 days to unlock all 100 tiers. But fear not, those of you who don’t want to pay for the Battle Pass, there are still a few tiers for you to unlock just by playing.

Bye Bye Secondary

A secondary weapon, the GONNE-6, has also been introduced in Crimson Heist. The GONNE-6 has 1 bullet and 1 bullet only. The round is explosive and I would advise you to use it as more of a gadget removal gun, rather than a traditional side-arm. Keep in mind the GONNE-6 will replace your secondary weapon, so all you Dokkaebi’s be ready to give up your SMGs in exchange for it! Also beware, Jager’s ADS can destroy the GONNE-6’s bullet! Similar to Flores, it’s a cute little gun with some decent utility but I don’t see this warping the meta or anything of the sort.

Year Six new features

Streamer mode is a new feature that’s been added, which will hopefully reduce stream sniping and queue sniping which is a little too prevalent in the Siege community. Another miscellaneous feature includes the new Reputation System which will counter toxic player behaviour. It’s still unclear what this entails, but it seems to be an under the hood feature that is invisible to players as of the writing of this.

Re-Works

Expect a decent amount of re-works on maps in Year 6 as well. Border is the first map to see some major re-works. Favela and Outback will also experience re-works later this year, so expect that down the pipeline. These re-works will probably be along there same lines as what we saw last year in the House re-work, which is good for casual players, less so for ranked/competitive players.

Personally, I’d rather they re-work other maps that seem in more desperate need of it such as Coastline, rather than fan favourites like Favela. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, but it’s nice to see re-works for a more casual audience. Additionally, smaller re-works are expected across all maps. I have no idea what this entails, whether it’s moving a door, restructuring or just moving a desk to make the room look bigger.

Balancing, Nerfing and Changes

Some much needed nerfing and balancing has been rolled out this year as well. The one I’m most happy about is Blackbeard’s shield now has reduced HP from 50 to 20 HP, meaning he can only absorb one shot and he is finally more or less useless. A Melusi nerf is on the cards, making her Banshee destructible once triggered. The developers have also speculated re-working the “downtime” phase such as preparation phase and death phase.

This includes allowing you to re-pick Operators during the preparation phase and being able to operate drones after death. These to me are very welcome changes for casual players, but I’m thinking this may cause quite a stir in the competitive community. But again, great changes to see! Armour has experienced a good bit of rebalancing, giving Operators with higher armour class bigger health pools. This is a fantastic change and noticeable change, as now the heavily armoured Operators feel heavy and less like delicate chunky vases.

As for later on in the year, 3 more operators are set to be released and available on the Battle Pass, Nakoda an American Operator, a Croatian Operator, and an Irish Operator. No details yet about any of these new Operators so stay tuned for that.

So expect a lot more this year from Rainbow Six Siege, as it certainly is shaping up to be a great year to jump in, especially casual players.

And stay tuned for all things Rainbow Six Siege from us here at GamEir.

Ubisoft has unveiled the key updates coming to the Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Esports programs in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America and North America, as well as its new plans for the Six Invitational 2021.

Recently postponed due to travel restrictions implemented by the French Government, the fans and pro teams’ most-anticipated Rainbow Six Esports competition of the year is now scheduled for May 2021. The Six Invitational 2021 will replace the Season 2021 Six Major in May. The exact location and dates will be communicated at a later date.

To leave room for the Six Invitational 2021, the calendar for Stage 1 has been adjusted in each region.

  • Stage 1 of the European League will kick off on the 18th of March at 5 PM GMT.
  • Stage 1 of the North American League will start on the 24th of March at 4 PM PM ET/1 PM PT.
  • Stage 1 of the Latin American League will start with the Latin America South Division on the 19th of March.
  • Stage 1 of the Asia-Pacific League will start with the South Division on the 18th of March at 6 PM AEDT.

More information on the adjustments coming to the Rainbow Six Esports programs related to the Six Invitational 2021 new schedule, including the Stage 1 specific calendar, is available: HERE.

Additionally, building upon the learnings from Season 2020 and community feedback, Ubisoft revealed the updates coming to the Rainbow Six Esports programs across all regions in Season 2021:

  • Draws removal: instead of ending games with a tie, matches will be decided through best-of-three overtimes.
  • Extended rosters:  to facilitate the organisation’s ability to compete at both Regional and National levels – by allowing them to have two distinct rosters – organisations will now be able to have up to a total of 12 players under their banner, with up to seven players registered for each specific roster. Any roster must count a minimum of five players and each roster can be supported by its own dedicated coach. Once a roster is registered, it is locked until the next Transfer Window. More details about the practical application will be communicated at a later date.
  • Coaching timeout: coaches will be given the opportunity to pause the game and discuss the strategy with their players. More details on the practical application are coming soon.
  • Standardised points system at the regional level: a regular win is rewarded with three points while a loss gives zero points. When the two teams fight up to the overtime, the winner gets two points while the loser gets one point.
  • Update of the tiebreakers.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six European League

In Europe, the format of the competition will remain the same: an online round-robin with best-of-one matches. The nine playdays will be spread over seven weeks, with only one match per week for each team, on Mondays, starting at 5 PM UK time. The last two playdays will be played on a special weekend on the seventh week.

Ubisoft is also revamping the online qualifiers for the European Challenger League, with three open tournaments spread until the end of the summer, granting points and prize money to the participating teams. The top five teams across all three tournaments will join in the Group Stage the nine National League winners, and the two-season 2020 relegated teams, making the European Challenger League a 16-team competition in 2021. The Playoffs will gather eight teams, competing in a double-elimination bracket played in Best-of-three.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six North American League

With the merger of the US and Canada Divisions, 10 teams will be joining the 2021 Season of the North American League. The 2021 Season will be broken down into three stages and will be played offline at The Esports Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.   The health and wellbeing of our pro players, partners and staff is our main priority, which is why, throughout the season, we will be working diligently to ensure the set up and respect of strict sanitary measures.

In order to maintain consistency between the regions, all North American League matches will be played in a Round Robin, best-of-one format with overtime. The stages will consist of seven weeks of play each with one playday per week on Wednesdays at 4 pm EDT /1 pm PDT. The seventh week of each stage will be a “Super Week” with three playdays back-to-back from Tuesdays to Thursdays beginning at 4 pm EDT / 1 pm PDT as well.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, the schedule may be subject to change.  With the merger of the US and Canada Challenger Leagues, the 2021 Challenger League will consist of 18 teams moving forward. There will be 14 playdays over the timespan of seven weeks. Teams will play in a Round Robin, best-of-one format with overtime.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Latin-American League

For the 2021 Season, the Latin-American League will maintain its three-division structure – Brazil Division, Mexico Division, Latin America South Division – but will change its competitive format to best-of-one matches during the regular online stage in each division.

The three divisions will be organised as follows:

  • Brazil Division: will remain with 10 teams;
  • Mexico Division: Changing from the 2020 structure, it will now have one more team, reaching a total of eight participants;
  • Latin America South Division: will remain with eight teams from Argentina, Peru and Chile.

Each division – Brazil, Mexico and Latin America South – will have two playdays per week over four weeks, with an additional fifth week for Brazil featuring three playdays, named “Super Week”.

  • Brazil Division playdays will happen on Saturdays and Sundays;
  • Mexico Division playdays will happen on Saturdays and Sundays;
  • Latin America South Division will happen on Thursdays and Fridays;

At the end of each stage, the best teams from each division advance to the LATAM League Stage Finals, a tournament that will give the top four teams the chance to qualify for one of the most prestigious Rainbow Six Siege tournaments in the world, the Six Major.

Stage one of the Brazil Division will kick off on the 20th of March, while Stage one of the Latin America South Division will start on the 19th of March and the Mexico Division on the 21st of March.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Asia-Pacific League

For Season 2021, the Asia-Pacific League will remain divided into two divisions, with the North Division – composed of teams located the northernmost of the region, meaning mostly teams from Japan, South Korea and South East Asia – and the South Division – composed of teams located the southernmost of the region, meaning from South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Each division will now gather eight teams and follow the same competitive format: an online round-robin with best-of-one matches.  In addition to these two divisions, Ubisoft will continue to organise the South Asia Nationals to offer up-and-coming teams the opportunity to hone their skills and reach the international competitions.

During a stage, each division will have one playday per week over seven weeks.

  • North Division playdays will happen on Wednesdays, starting at 6 PM SGT
  • South Division playdays will happen on Thursdays, starting at 6 PM AEST/AEDT

At the end of a stage, the top-ranking team in each division will be automatically qualified for the Six Major, based on the regional league point system. The teams ranking 2nd, 3rd and 4th in each division will be joined by the two best teams from the South Asia Nationals, to decide who will get the two remaining slots for the Six Major in a special weekend of Playoffs. Ubisoft is also adjusting the R6 SHARE program in the region, with all 16 teams, from both the North and South Divisions of the Asia-Pacific League, now included.

Ubisoft has announced the full details of the third season of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Year 5: Operation Shadow Legacy. This new Operation introduces Sam “Zero” Fisher from the Splinter Cell series as a new playable Operator, in addition to an entirely reworked Chalet map and additional gameplay features.

In Operation Shadow Legacy, players will be able to rediscover Sam Fisher as an Attacker named Zero, equipped with a new gadget, the Argus Launcher, a two-way drill camera. The cameras are launched to pierce soft or reinforced walls, windows, and hatches or stick to any surface. Once in the camera, the Attacker can rotate the camera’s vision to see the other side of the wall. Each camera is equipped with one laser charge, usable to deal damages to Defenders or destroy gadgets. Sam Fisher is also coming with his unique weapon the SC3000K & melee weapon: the Karambit.

In addition to Sam Fisher, players will be able to explore a reimagined Chalet map, which has been newly reworked. The team improved the first and the second floors, and the roof is now traversable, among other features. Objectives have been the main focus of this rework, with a hallway added to improve rotation in the Basement, and the Trophy site has been switched for a new one in Dining.

Alongside this new season, Ubisoft unveiled that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege will be available to play for free from the 27th of August to the 4th of September (my Birthday), depending on the platform. Interested players can join the more than 60 million players in the Rainbow Six Siege community across all platforms, including immediate access to all maps, modes, and 20 legacy Operators.

Ahead of this free week, Ubisoft also announced the launch of SquadFinder, a mobile and desktop web application designed to help players match with teammates according to their language, playstyle, and overall game habits. SquadFinder is now available here so check it out.

Additional game updates include the following:

  • Ping 2.0
  • Map Ban
  • New secondary gadget: the Hard Breach Charge
  • New Optics and Sights Colors
  • New Reinforcement Pool

The Test Server for Operation Shadow Legacy is live now. The Test Server is an alternative version of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, allowing players to test upcoming gameplay features that will make their way into the main game itself.

Since this is a testing environment, a consistent gameplay experience is not guaranteed on the Test Server. Players are invited to submit the issues they encounter on the Test Server on the R6 Fix platform. The Test Server is exclusive to Windows PC.

Ubisoft has announced that Operation Steel Wave, the second season of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Year 5, is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC, including UPLAY+, Ubisoft’s subscription service for Windows PC*.

Operation Steel Wave introduces Ace and Melusi, a new Attacker and Defender from Norway and South Africa, in addition to an entirely reworked House map and slew of gameplay changes.

Owners of the Year 5 Pass can play with the new Operators immediately, while the rest of the players will be able to unlock these Operators starting on the 23rd of June using Renown or R6 Credits. Additional seasonal new content, including the House map rework, are available for free to all players. Year 5 Season 2 will also welcome its Battle Pass “Tour De Force,” on the 29th of June.

In Operation Steel Wave, players will meet two new Operators:

  • Norwegian Attacker Ace is equipped with S.E.L.M.A., a throwable and stickable device that will stick to any vertical surface and slowly destroy up to 3 panels, one after the other. The S.E.L.M.A. gadget can also be thrown at almost any defensive gadget and destroy it with its arms or water explosive.
  • South African Defender Melusi is equipped with Banshee deployable electronic gadgets. It applies a slowing effect to any attackers that are in a direct line of sight. The Banshee can also be used as an intel gadget as it produces an identifiable sound when an attacker enters its range.

In addition to these two new Operators, players will be able to explore a reimagined House map, which has been newly reworked. The homeowners have expanded their family and their floorplan, with a large two-story addition adding new objective sites and entry points for players to contend with. Additional changes can be experienced throughout the map, all with the intent of evolving the gameplay meta.

Operation Steel Wave also introduces a new Defender secondary gadget – the Proximity Alarm. The small, throwable sticky gadget is an essential intel-gathering tool that loudly alerts Defenders of an oncoming Attacker in its line of sight.

Additional updates that come with Operation Steel Wave include the following:

  • Unified MMR
  • Amaru Buff
  • Addition of Echo Elite set

With all these updates and the tournament announced for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, it is definitely a good time to be a fan of this game.

Ubisoft has shared new details about the new esports league for Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege – the UK Ireland Nationals, starting this Summer. Details include the broadcast partner, prize pool and details on how players can take part.

Broadcast Partner

Ubisoft has appointed Promod Esports as their delivery partner for the UK Ireland Nationals. Promod Esports is a specialist esports solutions agency focused on building some of the best connections between brands and their passionate communities. The team behind Promod Esports is responsible for some of the most successful esports events in the UK and has worked on tournaments such as Rainbow Six Siege ESL Premiership Spring 2020 and the UEFA Euro 2020 etournament.

“We’re delighted to be able to work with Ubisoft on the newly announced UK Ireland Nationals, the Promod Esports team have loved working with Rainbow Six Siege over the last few years and we cannot be more excited to continue to be a part of developing the domestic competitive scene.”

Rob Black, CEO, Promod Esports.

Prize Pool

Ubisoft has pledged £25,000 prize money for the Summer 2020 season, the largest prize pool to date for a season of Rainbow Six Siege esports in the UK and Ireland.

Taking Part

To find out more about taking part in the UK Ireland Nationals qualifier on the 20th & the 21st of June and to sign up head to UKIN.GG.

Format

The UK Ireland Nationals will kick-off with a round-robin group stage. The top two teams from this stage will progress directly to the finals. The teams who place third to sixth in the round-robin group stage will then battle it out in the playoffs, with the best two teams taking the remaining places in the finals. The finals will be played over two days with the top four teams from the season competing to win the UK Ireland Nationals and become the champions for Summer 2020.

The winners of the UK Ireland Nationals will qualify for the EU Challenger League representing the very best the UK and Ireland have to offer at an international level.

“After the successes of UK Rainbow Six Siege esports over the past few years, we’re excited to build upon that with the UK and Ireland Nationals. We’ve been able to foster the growth of UK teams like Na’vi who have gone from strength to strength developing from UK champions to winning the Tokoname Pro League last year. The addition of a second division to help more teams make the transition to top national level play as well as a number of broadcast upgrades, will help take the UK and Ireland scene to the next level.”

Will Attwood, Esports Marketing Manager, Ubisoft UK and Ireland

Ubisoft is also keen to encourage more Irish teams to take part in their latest Rainbow Six Siege League.

Paddy Toner from The Republic of Players commented “The Irish esports scene is really starting to pick up heat. It’s fantastic to see Ubisoft giving our competitive players a platform to show off their skills and help take the Irish Gaming scene to the next level.”
