The Russo brothers have been attached to a new project. These pair have been on a heck of a run these past few years. They kicked off their major success with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, following that up with Civil War, and were then granted the crowns for The Avengers two final installments. To put it bluntly, that makes them “Hot Sh!t”. Undoubtedly the offers for their next projects must be thick on the ground. Interestingly enough, their names are now being thrown around with the announcement of a Magic: The Gathering anime Netflix series. Though they are down as executive producers, and won’t be directing. Front runners for the show will be Henry Gilroy, and Jose Molina.
Both show leads are veterans of the small screen. Gilroy is known most prominently for writing Star War: The Clone Wars, while also having worked on several other fantasy/sci-fi animated series. Jose Molina, however, has mainly worked on live action series, such as Firefly, Dark Angel, and Law and Order: SVU.
Planeswalkers assemble
For those of you completely uneducated in the world of Magic: The Gathering, it’s a card game. Created in 1993 by Richard Garfield, and published by Wizards of the Coast, the game now boasts nearly 30 million global players. Hailed as the first game of its kind, Magic carried on the already established tabletop RPG formula, but had players match up with only a deck of cards. Taking the role of a race of wizards, or “Planeswalkers”, matches are played out over nay number of hours. Players may summon, use artifacts, or cast spells. That’s the most simplistic explanation.
Of course, as with any of our favourite geekdoms, there’s a helluva lot more beneath the surface. The lore of Magic: The Gathering is deep, oceans deep.
Throughout its life time, Magic has received numerous expansions, and can now, naturally, be played online. There are several video games based on the franchise, and with this upcoming Netflix series, there’s no doubt it’s popularity will rise further. Details on the Magic: The Gathering Netflix series are slim. We will endeavor to inform we soon as we know, but for now, there is no information on season length, release date, or possible cast.
