Catch a whole new speed of hero in Irish cinemas this cinema with Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic the Hedgehog is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog.
The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden).
Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.
From what I have gleaned from the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog is the following:
- The team has taken notes from films like The Smurfs, Transformers, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles where the titular character(s) are shoved into the real world and have to deal with human issues. We came for Sonic, not James Marsden (no offense).
- Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik is an unusual choice but once again he brings that legendary character he is known for so I’m optimistic with his casting.
- Where the hell are Tails, Knuckles and Amy!? Hell, I want to see Shadow. Don’t save him for a sequel you may not get it.
- The trailer showed what I believe to be the end of the film with Dr. Robotnik in Sonic’s world with his iconic design. Why trailer? Why did you show us this!?
It’s interesting with the hype for Pokémon Detective Pikachu so high that Paramount Pictures wouldn’t take notes and design Sonic closer to his iconic design.
