In the latest episode of Speakin’ Geek, I got to sit down with Sean Chiplock. For those wondering Sean is a young man who is an actor. His resume consists of a large number of notable characters within anime and video games.

I first discovered Sean when I began reviewing The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel. After finishing the third entry I looked into setting up an interview with Sean and lucky enough the stars aligned, his schedule was free (barely) and we sat down and had a lovely chit chat.

From the get-go guys, I was bowled over by Sean’s enthusiasm and his charm. Sean is a guy cut from the same cloth as myself. He’s an enthusiastic gamer, his career is his passion and his passion is his career and he adores his fans in a way I’ve never seen from other actors.

This week on a very special Speakin’ Geek I was lucky enough to sit down with an icon in the gaming industry. A man who has been pulling off jackpots and stylin’ for over a decade, Reuben Langdon aka Dante the owner of Devil May Cry.

Not only that Reuben Langdon has also been a part of the Resident Evil franchise, the Power Rangers franchise and has even worked with Jackie Chan. He talks about what got him into stunt work, what he had to do to make Dante his own and how he hopes that when the DMC Netflix series happens that Adi Shankar thinks of him.

Reuben and I go the full gambit of discussing his Japan adventures to finding the beauty in the simulation that may be our existence.

Dublin Comic Con: Spring Edition 2019 was last weekend and it was awesome.

At a panel held for the press, I was lucky enough to attend I got to chat with Jason David Frank aka Tommy Oliver one of the legendary Power Rangers and James Marsters aka Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Torchwood, and most recently The Runaways.

The panel was packed with all the charm that those two could muster as well as a lot of enthusiasm from the audience in attendance.

It was a great way to start the event and I had an absolute blast getting back into the swing of podcasting.

Stay tuned to more from us at GamEir as well as the talented team from Dublin Comic Con.

I was part of a panel that got to meet some of the special guests of Dublin Comic Con Anime Edition. It was an interesting evening where the guests sat down with several members of the press and discussed their careers, their lives, and their fans. It was hosted by Brian Lloyd from entertainment.ie and we were treated to some lovely beverages and nibbles beforehand to lovingly bribe us to make sure nothing bad is said about Dublin Comic Con Anime Edition.

As the night began we got a lovely look around the floor and a fancy look at the artist’s alley which is littered with a lot of beautiful art pieces. I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with the alley this year. It’s always great but this year seemed to be something special.

I also got to try out the Ready Player One VR which unfortunately didn’t work but I did try out one of the videogames from the Vive HTC and it was a lot of fun. I was terrible at it but it was a lot of fun.

When the panel started in earnest it was great to hear the stories from the guests and it was very funny to watch Brian discuss what anime is when he himself has limited access to anime. It made for a fun back and forth. You can find the panel below but I will point out that unfortunately, my ZOOM hit max capacity of space so sadly the podcast will stop at the 30-minute mark. You’ll still get a lot of content but not all of it, unfortunately. I do remember my question so I’ll give you a brief explanation of what they shared.

My question was what was the most memorable experience with a fan? The responses ranged from the ridiculous to the heartwarming.

Eric Stuart started us off with a connection he had with a fan when that fan was a child. He explained that he always tries to answer fan letters so one such fan came up to him a con and explained that when she was a child he answered her letter for a school project. This was so heartwarming and brought me close to tears.

Kira Buckland discussed how she has gotten to meet so many enthusiastic fans through Nier: Automata because of the emotional impact the game has had. She went no further but she seemed impressed by the incredible fans she has.

Seth Gilliam possibly had the most impressive encounter where a guest asked him to marry them. They would fly him out to their home, put him up in their household, as well as his family so he could marry them. He said he didn’t take it in the end as it didn’t feel appropriate to the character of Father Gabriel and that floored me, incredible.

DC Douglas’ answer will always stay with me though, he said an orgy lol, which of course was a joke.

Check out the episode of Speakin’ Geek below and enjoy and let us know your stories from Dublin Comic Con Anime Edition.

This past weekend I got to interview Kira Buckland at Dublin Comic Con Anime Edition. She was an absolute delight and discussed the many roles she’s had the opportunity to inhabit. We talk about the fandom of Nier: Automata and how she has been blown away by the fandom especially because 2B is such a young character in pop culture circles.

We discussed several roles of Kira’s including Edna from Tales of Zestiria a particular favourite of mine as the character of Edna is such a fascinating individual with a deep and meaningful backstory. She also talks about bringing to western audiences the fierceness and bluntness of Ueno Naoka from the smash hit anime film A Silent Voice from 2017.

She also discussed going from audience to actor and how the change was interesting and how she has always has had an interest in performing but not being on stage so she gravitated towards voice acting. And we discuss Final Fantasy VII and her connection to it now with her role as Aeris in Final Fantasy VII Machinabridged. This was a particular highlight for myself because I adore Final Fantasy VII (it was my favourite).

And we end the podcast with Kira’s origin and what inspired to become an actor. Hope you enjoy this latest episode and stay tuned for more from the GamEir podcast Speakin’ Geek. And if you’re a fan of Kira Buckland let us know your favourite role of hers.

On this episode of Speakin’ Geek Graham once again dives into the DCEU. This time it’s all about Ava Duvernay and her new gig. And it’s all about the New Gods the legendary creations from comic book icon Jack Kirby. Joining Graham in this Boom Tube to the Fourth Wall is Darren who many will remember from the infamous dissection of the Justice League film episode. This time Darren brings his New God size knowledge to the podcast to discuss what Ava may bring to the jumbled table of the DCEU.

They discuss who could inhabit the two worlds of New Genesis and Apokolips and where this would fit into the continuity of the DCEU. Not only that Darren goes way, way back to how it was all formed by Jack Kirby after he left Marvel Comics.

On this episode of Speakin’ Geek I’m joined by Darren Mooney who many will remember from the last episode of the podcast where he and his cohort in podcast crime Andrew Quinn celebrated Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. We spent a whole day dissecting and watching the films that formed the DCEU. Their impact, their influences and the various layers that were hidden within their depths. It was all to prepare ourselves for what Justice League may achieve when it was released, well now it’s released and it has made ripples but not in the way fans and the executives at WB would have hoped. It has come in as the lowest-earning DCEU film with an earning of $94 million dollars over its first weekend.

With that in mind, Darren and I discussed what the film did right and what the film did wrong. As the eternal optimist I discuss what I enjoyed about the film but even I had major issues with the film and Darren ever the articulate and intelligent individual was able to rip a new boom tube in the film that he has described as the worst film of the year. At the end of the day though these are just our opinions and we’d love to hear yours.

On the latest episode of Speakin’ Geek I chat with Darren and Andrew from the 250 Podcast about the state of the DCEU ahead of the release of Justice League. We dive deep into the DCEU and what Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder created when Man of Steel hit the big screen and what Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice did to further expand the cinematic mythos. We chatted about everything that Snyder and WB did right and what they did wrong, I learn from Darren the many faceted layers that MOS and BVS have within them that are unknown to even major fans of these films like me.

After last week’s episode with the special guests this week I met with some of the heroes of Leakycon, the purveyors of magical goodies. I chatted with several of the retailers at the stalls and what I came away from each interview was that they are all highly enthused fans of Harry Potter and the world he lives in. They all had wonderful stories about what got them into the world of Harry Potter.

They all had different avenues, there was Joker’s Journal who was a close family who grew up with Harry Potter being read to them. There were the members of Ann Arbor Tee’s who were Potter fans that learned to love it in a new way with the highly talented theatre group Starkid. If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, musicals, and Disney then you’re in for a treat. There was also the team behind Wizards In Space which is all about the exploration of fan created projects that expand the Harry Potter universe in unexpected and creative new ways.

It was a lot of fun interviewing all these passionate people and I have to say they are some of the most impressive people I’ve met at a con. Their passion and love for Harry Potter was infectious. If you were at Leakycon and I was lucky enough to meet you be sure and let me know how you got on during Leakycon and what were some of your highlights?

Check out all the links to the various store’s below if you’re interested in anything Potter:

This weeks episode of Speakin’ Geek is all about the boy who lived Harry Potter because I was at this years Leakycon which lucky for me was held here in Ireland at Citywest Hotel. I met a ton of incredibly passionate fans, met some idols of mine, and I sat down with some incredible talent including Evanna Lynch, Jim Cornish, and Dan Fogler. The interviews were fantastic, a lot of fun, I learned a lot, and I bonded with Evanna Lynch over Prince of Persia,( yes she’s that cool).

Particular highlights of the podcast include Jim Cornish discussing the upcoming Han Solo film, Evanna and I bonding over Prince of Persia, ( I know I said it already but it’s just so funny because she became so enthusiastic) and Dan Fogler discussing his love of Jude Law and what he may bring to the role of young Dumbledore. Leakycon is an absolute and I hope it returns to Ireland soon.

This is easily one of the funniest episodes, and I hope you enjoy it. If you enjoyed it be sure to like, favourite, tweet, do all the social media shenanigans and if I met you at Leakycon let me know how the long magical weekend treated you when we parted ways.  Stay tuned to the next episode where I’ll be interviewing some of the great purveyors of magical goods at Leakycon this year. You know who you are and you’re all awesome.
