Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is out and it has been wracking up high scores all around the world. Am I here to tell you anything you don’t already know? Hardly. In fact, I’m here to spread the good word.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a near-perfect game. I start where all games start when someone plays them – the visuals. There are absolutely gorgeous. Never have I been so impressed by pixels on a game before. Each sprite is bursting with colour and character. From the rainbow of various Foot Clan members to the various dangerous denizens of Dimension X this game is brimming with colourful characters.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge – Turtles shout it out!

None exemplify the beauty of this game more than the playable characters. You get access to 6 playable characters initially and then when you finish the game for the first time a 7th is unlocked. Each character, from the 4 turtle brothers to their rat daddy and the two humans are brought to loving life with individual traits and abilities. No 2 characters are alike.

Whether you try and fight from long range with Donatello and his bow staff to keeping it up close and personal with Raphael there is a character for every kind of player. My personal favourite is Raphael simply because I adore his signature weapons the sai as well as his red bandana and snarky attitude.

The story of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a simple one. It is possibly the weakest part of the game as it is quite short. You could easily finish it in a day. Shredder is on the news because he and his trusty sidekick’s Bebop and Rocksteady are taking over Channel 6. As the heroes in a half shell take them down they learn there is something else afoot and the game gets gnarlier from there.

What the game lacks in length it makes up for in replayability as well as content. There are several fun sidequests to enjoy and multiple endings to unlock. The gameplay is also easy to get to grips with. With an RPG element that allows you to level up your particular character of choice. As you get stronger you’ll unlock new moves, combos etc allowing for even more fun.

The best part of the pizza

Easily the best part of the game is its multiplayer. You can play 4-player couch co-op or if you’re up for something truly wild you can go online and play with up to 5 friends for true mutant mayhem. This kind of attention to detail is where this game stands above other simpler remakes. It goes above and beyond to deliver a truly tubular experience.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a brilliant game and for its surprisingly reasonable cost of €24.99 it is in my opinion a pure slice of joy.
