It’s official, folks; Total War: Warhammer III is coming!

Earlier today (3rd Feb 2020), Creative Assembly dropped an absolutely tantalising announcement trailer. Starring front-and-center are Chaos and Kislev. While players have been asking for a Chaos overhaul for a very long time, Kislev has not featured in a Total War: Warhammer title thus far.

Both of these factions have been hot topics within the Total War: Warhammer community for quite some time. In the trailer, we see glimpses of the four Gods of Chaos – Khorne, Nugle, Slaanesh, and Tzeentch. Many players have openly longed for separate factions for each of these deities. This could perhaps be teasing that very possibility. At present, there is only the “Warriors of Chaos” faction.

Meanwhile, from the Kislev side, we see a stately figure who is likely Tzarina Katarin Bokha, the Ice Queen of Kislev. A powerful ice witch, the Tzarina’s inclusion may indicate a brand new lore of magic – ice magic – in Total War: Warhammer III. Meanwhile, we see Kislev’s fur-clad warriors, looking cool as hell in the snow. Furthermore, we see something that’s likely exciting many players – bear cavalry! Is there anything cooler than fantasy Russians riding polar bears into war?!

Total War: Warhammer, the Franchise

For those of you not in the know, Total War: Warhammer is a series of grand strategy games under the broader aegis of the Total War games. The TW:W series largely follows the formula of the other Total War games. Taking control of one of a number of competing factions, players fight for supremacy against each other or computer-controlled factions. In Total War: Warhammer, however, those factions include elves, dwarves, Lizardfolk, and hideous subterranean rat-people. What’s not to love?

The third in the series, Total War: Warhammer III will likely add a number of new factions – new Chaos Factions and Kislev among them. It is likely the expand the campaign map greatly, as well – for example, Total War: Warhammer II just about doubled the world map. Likewise, we may see new locations such as Ind, Nippon, and Khuresh. A leak back before the release of the first game listed Chaos Dwarves and the Ogre Kingdoms as potential factions for the third game, also. Time will tell!

If you have never played a Total War: Warhammer game before, now is the perfect time to start. Owners of the first game have access to an expanded roster and map in the second game, and it’s likely that pattern will continue with the third.
