Current Jade is here to tell you to hold on to your butts! Yes, it’s time to talk about Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection! And yes, I took my time with this so I could play as much as possible. Is anyone really surprised? Really, I spared no expense.

What is Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection?

This collection brings together seven titles from the infamous franchise. Of course, this also means they come with some upgrades. Save state support, new maps, and quality-of-life fixes exist. Included in this collection are:

  • Jurassic Park 8-BIT
  • Jurassic Park Portable
  • Jurassic Park 16-BIT
  • Jurassic Park Genesis
  • Jurassic Park Part 2: The Chaos Continues 16-BIT
  • Jurassic Park Part 2: The Chaos Continues Portable
  • Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition Genesis

Each game is a solid upgrade of the originals, giving a rounded experience. You’ll get to play as both Dr Alan Grant AND a velociraptor on your quest for survival. And these are adventures you don’t want to miss.

Life Finds a Park

Everyone who knows me knows that I have a deep love of the entire Jurassic Park franchise. But adding to my collection, games in particular is not an easy feat. Especially the older games. So when I heard that Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection was happening, you can imagine my excitement. I have been trying to get my hands on the NES/SNES/Genesis era of games for months upon months.

Sitting down and getting to experience these games finally is almost indescribable. The art style, being the classic remastered, is incredibly cool. Many games as of late try to emulate the nostalgic style of older games. None quite hit the nail on the head though. Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection is everything I needed artistically. I’m a simple woman, I like older things brought to a new light.

The gameplay takes a little bit to get used to. Especially when learning how to aim when you need to shoot. Once you adjust, it’s a lot of fun. However, I firmly believe that the greatest gameplay comes from being a velociraptor. You should buy Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection for that alone.

Jurassic Thoughts

Truth be told, there isn’t a whole lot to say about these games. While there is some level of difficulty within, it’s nothing that can’t be overcome with some practice. Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection is the perfect amount of nostalgia paired with the 30-year anniversary of the franchise.

If you’re a franchise fan, or just enjoy the feel of old games, you need this collection in your life. Although, I honestly feel everyone needs to play these games. That may be my dinosaur bias speaking, but it’s true. Everyone needs more dinosaurs in their lives. My only complaint is that I missed out on scoring the physical edition.

We’re officially a month away from the release of Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. And naturally, we’re not without some news. Things on the Project Zero front have been relatively quiet since this remaster was announced. Everything has very much been heads down, hard work. That said, Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse isn’t the only upcoming release Koei Tecmo has coming soon. However, it is the one that I am most excited for.

And now, Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is available to pre-order digitally! These include a standard edition and a deluxe edition, with a digital deluxe upgrade pack also available. There will also be a physical release, but currently this seems to be Asia only, much like Maiden of Black Water remaster. Yes, I do have that remaster on my shelf, as well as the original Wii U collector’s edition. I don’t have a problem, I am the problem.

Just in case you’re not caught up on what Project Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is, here’s a quick rundown. Originally released in Asia only for the Nintendo Wii, this is the fourth entry of the Project Zero franchise. Players follow Ruka Minazuki, Misaki Aso and Madoka Tsukimori in their quest to uncover the truth about what happened a decade previously, and recover their lost memories.

There’s also a brand new story trailer to go with the pre-order release, showcasing game mechanics, bonuses, and even a Photo Mode. Roll on March 9th.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is only a couple of days away, and I am not prepared. I cried when it was announced. Not just teared up. Oh no, I ended up sobbing on my kitchen floor. Definitely not the best thing to happen mid-cooking, but oh well. It happened.

This week in particular feels very surreal. There are so many fans who’ve been waiting for this longer than I have been. However, when I first played Mass Effect, I was HOOKED. The worlds amazed me, the story wowed me, and the characters made me fall in love. Hell, some of the aliens felt more human than people I’ve known over the years.

You want to know what really made me excited for this remaster? Jennifer Hale’s reaction to the trailer. The trailer featuring FemShep heavily. Guys, I cried with her. I have adored Jennifer Hale since I was a little kid. Her voice was a huge feature in my childhood. Just in case you didn’t know, this incredible woman is the voice of Thorn, lead of the band Hex Girls. Yes, I’m talking Scooby Doo. This woman is a QUEEN.

Jennifer Hale brought her voice to a different kind of strong woman. Commander Shepard is ICONIC. Honestly, I look up to Commander Shepard. Yes, I know we also have BroShep. But let me have this one. Commander Shepard doesn’t take crap from anyone, she is strong and resilient. She is fiercely intelligent and loyal to her crew. And regardless of if you go paragon or renegade, she is undeniably human throughout. There is no one who could bring Shepard to life the way Jennifer Hale does.

Shepard herself aside, I cannot wait to step foot on all the graphically enhanced planets. I love being able to explore, so I will land on every single planet I can. But let’s be real, I am already prepping to romance my one true love, Garrus Vakarian. My space husband is calling to me, with shiny new graphics.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is going to take over my life for a while. It is all I want from this year. Lay all of this remaster on me. I need it. Also here’s a final reminder that Jennifer Hale is an incredible person.

Overcooked: All You Can Eat is without a doubt one of the most maddening and frustrating games I’ve ever played. It also happens to be one of the most enjoyable too. This bundle is the best way to play Overcooked 1 and Overcooked 2 along with their respective DLC packs and the free levels that come with it. With this, you’ll have over 200 levels to tackle, seven of which are completely new to the franchise. A welcome challenge indeed if you’ve played any of the previous games, but the challenge won’t last too long for veterans.

While Overcooked: All You Can Eat isn’t for everyone due to the game being co-op, and you need good communication and organisation with your partners to tackle the tasks at hand. This makes it both tough and worthwhile when you three-star every level you possibly can. To be clear, the game remasters the original Overcooked to look and feel like Overcooked 2, just without the throwing ability. It’s also nice to be able to see your finely cooked dishes in 4K at 60FPS.

Bitten off more than you chew?

If you’re looking for a whole new experience going into the game then you’ll have a bad time. But if you’re looking to relive the fun in modern graphics and a no-hassle menu then this is for you. One of my favourite additions to this bundle is also the new character selection screen. You can now see the full list of characters available. Believe it or not, it’s so much handier to select a character rather than just scrolling left or right to pick one.

In Overcooked: All You Can Eat you’ll also notice a range of quality of life improvements. One of which was being able to see if there is a bun on a plate. The devs came up with a handy new way of displaying the buns. When cooking hamburgers this is a big step up. I’ve also noticed an auto-drop feature when you’re falling off an edge on lava or ice levels. Meaning that when you go over the edge the game seems to drop the dish close to the edge so that your partner can still pick up the dish. Making the game a lot less frustrating than the previous iterations.

Fun on the menu?

The difficulty level seems to have a natural curve as your progress. I have noticed that some of the score requirements have changed to a higher value. I’m assuming this is due to the small quality of life improvements. With a recent announcement of cross-platform multiplayer coming sometime in early 2021, you’ll soon be able to scream at your friends cross-platform.

There’s something so special about the way Overcooked: All You Can Eat mixes simple cooking instructions with frantic level designs. Causing you to verbalise your tasks with your co-op partners. I can’t get enough. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve beaten these games, and it’s a testament to their design that they still hold up so well.

XSEED Games, has announced a special retail Day 1 ”10th Anniversary Edition” for the upcoming remaster of Akiba’s Trip. Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed is coming to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC this summer.

The 10th Anniversary Edition for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch will be available for pre-order shortly on the XSEED Games Store and participating retailers for a MSRP of $49.99. The standalone game will be sold digitally for $39.99.

What kind of trip is this!?

First shown off at E3 2019, Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed has expanded its vampire-hunting action with a newly announced Nintendo Switch version and a more expansive visual update. Experience the acclaimed origin of the “strip action RPG” series in English for the very first time. Return to the glittering streets of the golden age of the Akihabara district circa 2011.

Dive into the seedy underworld lurking in the shadows of this haven of “otaku” culture to uncover a vast vampiric conspiracy. Expose their plans (and their bodies) to the light of day with advanced stripping techniques. This is known as the self-styled “Akiba Freedom Fighters” to make the streets safe for otakus once more.

The Day 1 “10th Anniversary Edition” includes a retail copy of Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed on the PS4 or Nintendo Switch. An art book with over 60 pages of newly commissioned art and original illustrations from both games in the series, and the official soundtrack containing 47 tracks across 2 CDs are also included.

Key Features of Akiba’s Trip: Hellbound & Debriefed

  • Playful Reimagining of Japan’s Electronics Mecca – Take a virtual tour of the Akihabara district circa 2011 recreated in painstaking detail. Complete with accurate street layouts and shops based on real businesses operating at the time.
  • Fight Like a Nerd – Wield an arsenal of replicas, collectables, and other amusing objects as you humiliate vampires into submission. All the while you will be wearing a stylish array of customizable clothes and costumes.
  • Your Choices Matter – Choose which faction to support in the fight for Akihabara. Watch as your decisions affect the course of the story, culminating in one of several different endings.
  • Full Dual Audio – Enjoy hours of voiced-over banter with a choice of English or the original Japanese.

And yes, even as I write this I am in tears. This is all I have wanted for gaming this year. Finally, after how many leaks and rumours now? Bioware has finally announced Mass Effect Legendary Edition.

Yes, yes, we’ve all known this was coming. But does that make it any less wonderful? NOPE! In 2021, we are being treated to a remaster of the full Mass Effect trilogy. All single-player base content, and DLCs from all three games. Promo weapons, armours, and packs – all remastered and optimized for 4k Ultra HD.

I can’t even begin to put into words how excited and happy I am. I played the trilogy for the first time when I started getting into gaming properly four years ago. Yes, I was late to the scene. Nothing compares to Mass Effect for me.

This trilogy is what makes me love gaming so much. And all I have wanted for the last four years was a remaster. I can guarantee most other people have waited longer. But we’re finally getting it. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to cry more and make Mass Effect fan art.

The Demon’s Souls PS5 reveal gave us a glimpse behind the foggy doorways of my flagship title. The short but sweet demo showcased some of the best remastering animations and graphics since Resi 2!

With recent details emerging that launch titles are going to cost $70.00/ £60.00 (so you can bet it’s €70.00) I want to know I’m getting my bang for my buck! One title I’m pleased to fork out my money for is Demon’s Souls!

Bluepoint who bringing Demon’s Souls to (re)life?

Bluepoint Games has certainly taken their jobs seriously clearly understanding FromSoftware has its reputation on the line handing such an iconic game over to a third party.

Thankfully Bluepoint has really invested a lot of thought and energy into its efforts. remaking it from the ground up.

The developers of Shadow of the Colossus (of which Graham reviewed and adored) and the Nathan Drake collection definitely have a trustworthy reputation. The new lighting system, faster load times and fluid mechanics bring new life to Demon’s Souls and I can already see it will be like playing a entirely new game, one that you already love!

My research brought me across a comparison video, side by side screens of just how the upgrades fair compared to the PS3 title.

Check out the stunning footage below to whet your appetite.

Shenmue! Are you in there!?

Shenmue is that you?. Wait!… what has happened to you!? I played both classic and remastered Shenmue. I am now ready to divulge all the thoughts and questions that came to mind.

Read on for a ‘spoiler free’ review of Sega’s: Shenmue 1 & 2 remaster.

Hello darkness my old friend

To start off I would like to state that I do have a Dreamcast and have played Shenmue in its original form, so my review swings on the hinges of that experience. After all the game is still the same game as back in the 90’s so what is this remastering all about and should you go out and buy it or spend about 60e extra and grab a Dreamcast to play the original on?

If you check up comparisons online you will see that 90’s Shenmue and the remastered are, well pretty much the same. They added some visual effects enhancers that you can toggles on or off which is strange (but I will explain this dark secret later). Albeit the game is the same!

It would seem to me, whilst wearing my detective monocle, that Sega’s only motive to re-release Shenmue 1 & 2 was to cause a hype primarily for their upcoming Shenmue 3 next year. While they are still in the production of Shenmue 3 it seems they dropped the ball big time on this “remaster”.

I mean the game is still as awesome as ever but that is just it, nothing new there. In my eyes, the original is better. any attempts here to remaster have spoiled it or, well broke it!

So why Shenmue ‘remastered’

In case nobody noticed we are experiencing a time where every genre of media, be it: video game, music or film, is having its history torn up and ripped through to find them old nostalgic money makers to “reinvent” or in the gaming world “remaster”.

Shenmue had a Kickstarter campaign which was very successful.

We have had some nice remastered titles and some more to come such as Spyro and the biggest, most glorious one: Resident Evil 2 (in my opinion).

The wave of retro pre-loaded consoles over the past two years and their success is proof we love nostalgia, but in all the hype are we starting to fall into a trap of low-”fast food”-quality gaming remakes?

Shenmue is my first experience of this “fast food” quality remake.

As far as I’m concerned, this is not a remaster, just an attempted Port. And not a very good one. And just so Happens Shenmue 3 is coming quite soon! what better time to rush a remastering of the previous titles.

Why? you ask.

Glitches!

Too many to count almost.

Firstly, the cutscenes. The camera goes haywire and leaves you staring into a bush or a wall 80% of the time. Which isn’t all too bad as you follow the conversation and subtitles, only for them to disappear randomly a short time later.

The camera gets stuck in 1st person view when you exit cut scenes from a forklift which is crazy because you can’t play the game in 1st person view, it’s not an option unless driving a forklift! Yet I was stuck for 1 hour interacting normally in the environment.

The sound is appalling, you trigger an event or press a button during a sequence and a loud screeching or rumbling echoes continuously even during normal gameplay for ages until another cutscene of game loading phase.

If similar happened in a cinema you would walk out with a refund.

It’s that bad!

The story, characters, and combat are all awesome, just as they always were. Yet the visual and audio bugs ruin even this experience.

Solution

Forums online mention that glitches get worse if you leave the visual enhancer on and certain other upscaling settings. Yet surely that is the whole reason its called a “remaster”. As mentioned above, it’s almost like a dark secret as if Sega knew about this issues and so allowed the upscaling settings to be deactivated. Surely you want to have it at its best settings on your PS4 to enjoy it with.

Hopefully, all the moaning toward Sega regarding their glitched programming will have them release a patch soon to fix it.

My solution would be to buy the original, buy a Dreamcast and enjoy the real deal.

Gamers dictate the market and if crap remasters are turned into successful sellers then that is what we will get in future.

Final Words

I love Shenmue. it’s a great game, full of great quirks and deep story. It definitely defined gaming back in the 90’s. It set foundations for the open world genre we know and love today.

This remaster however is simply a poor attempted Port onto new hardware.

Shenmue is a classic and kudos to Sega for their first 2 games as originally made.

There were also reports of similar screw-ups with their remastering of Sonic last year. Does this mean they do not have the skill or passion to make a truly worthy remake?.

Let’s hope that Shenmue 3 will redeem the lacklustre efforts of the recent remastering attempt. Let’s hope it will be so glorious, we will all understand why so little effort was made here.

One way to find out is to check back here on GamEir for that upcoming review.

At the Tokyo Game Show, Capcom unveiled yet another trailer. This time it was for its hotly anticipated game Resident Evil 2, which offers gamers a completely fresh take on the classic survival horror masterpiece.

Delve deeper into the gripping events taking over Raccoon City, and follow the journey of rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy and college student Claire Redfield as they begin to uncover what’s behind the terrifying zombie outbreak.

As both Leon and Claire embark on their own campaigns independently, their collective experiences piece together a comprehensive story uncovering the malicious motives behind the nightmare engulfing the city, the truth behind the nefarious Umbrella Corporation, and the Birkin family’s role in the tragedy.

The trailer also introduces some of the evil foes and potential allies that players can expect to encounter including the iconic series femme fatale Ada Wong, mysterious Annette Birkin, and Chief Officer Brian Irons.

Buckle up ladies and gentlemen as Resident Evil 2 looks set to claim the survival horror crown once more.

The big question now though is will you be picking it up once it hits shelves? Stay tuned to GamEir for more on Resident Evil 2. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to hide behind my couch. I am so terrified of horror games…

Spyro is a title that has a strong sentimental value to many. Long have its fans campaigned for a remaster of the original 1998 title, and in keeping with the current culture of remake and remediation, it seems that dream has finally become a reality with the recent announcement of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy.

I never played Spyro as a child, so the fervent nostalgia for this whimsical dragon was a bit lost on me. I did have many friends who held the game in high regard, and I know that they’re looking forward to Spyro Reignited Trilogy with much gusto.

First Impressions:

The mechanics of Spryo appear to be easily approachable, and quick to learn. Levels are fairly linear, with easily formidable, squishy enemies that go down in one or two hits. Spyro can glide from tall heights, boost to increase his speed, and shoot fire, similar to the original. My initial impressions aligned the new game closer with the likes of Super Mario Odyssey, or Yooka Laylee in terms of its adorable, sad-to-see-you-go baddies. The music, too, has an ethereal, mystical quality, juxtaposed with the jaunty upbeat tunes of the original series. It is the subtle backdrop of each world, setting a calm, peaceful mood to lull you into a lazy dream world.

The UI is fairly barebones, which is both great and irritating. Great because there’s no filler on the screen, so you as a player become truly immersed in the world without nagging menu items popping up on all sides. However, no-frills means no health bar and no way of knowing how you are progressing. An occasional pop-up occurs when you’ve collected a gem so that you know your total count. But when you’re hit by an enemy, there’s no way of knowing how many hit points you have left; there are no warning signs to let you know that Spyro’s next hit could be his last.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy appears to play rather smoothly, with a few flaws in the general gameplay creeping up around the fringes. Most notably, it seems that Spyro lacks any sort of ledge-grip ability. In this video, you can witness the dev attempting time after time to make a long jump, only to bash his head against the wall and plummet to his death each time. Spyro is mere inches from the tip of the ledge, but there appears to be no way for him to grab on and hoist himself up. This is a staple to so many titles, so it seems to be a glaring oversight if this point was missed, especially in a platformer.

Verdict:

I know that Spyro is a title beloved by many gamers past and present. And so I can imagine that this remaster is very exciting to many. Though I never played Spyro myself, I can see the appeal, and so I may even try this one on when it’s released. It seems to be a fun, simple platformer to be played at a relaxed pace. What more could one want?

How about you, lovely reader? Did you play Spyro as a tike growing up in the 90’s? If so, will you be getting this remaster? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

Spyro Reginited Trilogy will be released on 21st September 2018 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at €39.99.
