It’s the collaboration that has been requested for years. Players can now download the Public Test Build and experience two iconic franchises coming together for one unmissable gaming experience. The story unfolds as the Xenomorph becomes the latest Killer to join the Fog alongside Ellen Ripley, its newest Survivor. Set against the eerie backdrop of the Nostromo Wreckage, fans can go to the depths of space and try their best to dominate their prey or make it out alive. Dead by Daylight: Alien will be available on all platforms on August 29th.

A relentless specimen from a distant planet

The Xenomorph is the embodiment of the stealth Killer – quick and powerful, it can strike Survivors with its razor-sharp tail. The Xenomorph’s Power, called Runner Mode, allows the Killer to walk on four legs and become stealthier, reducing its Terror Radius considerably. An icon of the horror and science fiction realm, it is the perfect deadly killer: surprising even the most resourceful Survivors and forcing them to “sign off”…

“What a gift to bring such an icon of horror into Dead by Daylight”, says Dave Richard, Creative Director for Dead by Daylight. “Its appearance is so striking, so fear-inducing in itself…but to have it in our game also delivering on horrifying surprise moments really opens the door for fun strategic gameplay. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished with this Chapter.”

The Xenomorph’s arrival also introduces a new interactive Map function: Control Stations. Seven Control Stations are scattered across the Map. Survivors can interact with these stations to get a new Tool. The Remote Flame Turret, while the Xenomorph can enter and exit the tunnels underneath the Control Station.

“Creating the Xenomorph’s Tunnel system was very challenging as we had never created a sub-level that could only be accessible to the Killer”, explains Janick Neveu, Game Designer on Dead by Daylight. “This new mechanic grants it Map-wide mobility and definitely amps up the scare factor – which feels very connected to the original character.”

The Ultimate Survivor

As the sole survivor of the Nostromo, Ellen Ripley is strong-willed, level-headed, and determined. Having overcome relentless threats, she is the embodiment of resilience, making her an invaluable ally to any Survivor group. She has faced the Xenomorph before and is now in the Entity’s hands. Her fate in this hostile place is still undecided – but there is hope.

“Get out of there!”

Surrounded by vast, overwhelming shadows, an omnipresent feeling of dread is imbued with the new Map, Nostromo Wreckage. The Entity has reconstructed the Nostromo spaceship from Ripley’s memories so that players can stalk – or be stalked – around the derelict and nightmarish craft. Players will rediscover the iconic ship as it incorporates memorable elements from the first Alien film with some unique Dead by Daylight twists.

New Survivor Tool: The Remote Flame Turret

Dead by Daylight: Alien introduces a new Survivor tool that can be used exclusively when facing the Xenomorph. The Remote Flame Turret’s defensive attack staggers the Xenomorph and can cause its unique Power to end.

This tool complexifies gameplay as it requires Survivors to strategically place the Turret and activate it at the opportune time. Players will be kept on their toes as they will need to repair the tool if it overheats, and will be forced to protect it (and themselves) from the powerful Xenomorph, which can destroy the Turret. Who will make it out alive?

The 26th Dead by Daylight Chapter, Forged in Fog, heads to a distant era. Players will have the chance to wreak havoc with a powerful new Killer. This new Killer is The Knight. Or players can mount their next escape with new Survivor Vittorio Toscano, a scholar in search of elusive wisdom. This Chapter also includes a new Map, The Shattered Square, a ravaged village that fell to The Knight and his Guards.

A Bygone Age of Iron and Stone

A new genre of horror joins Dead by Daylight: medieval horror. “This theme is uncharted territory in our universe,” explains Dave Richard, Creative Director for Dead by Daylight.

“Bringing these two concepts to life has been thrilling and I am very proud of what we’ve accomplished.” These genre elements are evident throughout The Shattered Square, where the cinders of burnt buildings still glow, remnants of The Knight’s fateful visit…and since marked by the passage of The Entity.”

Machiavellian Tactics

The Knight is a calculating commander and formidable fighter, capable of cutting down anyone in his way. From a young age, The Knight learnt to wield weapons and gained the undying allegiance of three loyal Guards: The Carnifex, The Assassin, and The Jailer. Earning renown and notoriety for his martial exploits, he ascended to knighthood and set his sights on a dark campaign for dominion.

The Knight’s Power, Guardia Compagnia, allows players to create a Patrol Path and summon an AI-controlled Guard, leaving a Standard Flag in position. Once summoned, that Guard can survey and patrol, hunt and chase Survivors, or damage Pallets and Generators. When a Survivor is spotted, the Guard will chase his prey for a finite amount of time or disappear once his target is wounded. The Survivor can outsmart a Guard by staying alive until the Hunt Timer ends, unhooking a fellow Survivor, or catching the Standard Flag when activated.

Each Guard has their own special talent – but only one can be used at a time. Survivors will have to be extra careful about the whereabouts of both The Knight and his allies. Adaptive survival – or slaying – strategies are crucial.

Keeper of Arcane Secrets

Born into lordship, Vittorio Toscano is a scholar in search of ancient secrets and obscurities. He has an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He is driven by a relentless quest to bring peace, harmony, and order to the world. After many expeditions, Vittorio encountered The Knight. While their relationship was initially mutually beneficial, things changed once The Knight revealed his true intentions.

“Vittorio is obsessed with finding the secret to travelling between planes of existence,” explains Dave Richard. “He personally hired The Knight as his protector during an expedition. Things certainly… turned sour between the two. It’s always fun when the Survivor and Killer are linked narratively. We can’t wait for players to delve deeper into the lore that unites them.”

Vittorio’s appearance bears marks of suffering and hard-earned wisdom. His body is covered in strange symbols that glow in a mysterious turquoise light as if imbued with arcane energy. The mysteries of their origin and their meaning will be revealed in time.

Forged in Fog is available on November 22nd. It will be available on Steam, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Epic Games Store, Windows Store and Nintendo Switch.

Zombies: brainless cannon fodder, horror icons. Their alarming quantity and desire to consume brains have made them endlessly useful in pop culture, from Romero classics to the seemingly never-ending Walking Dead franchise. They’re especially at home in videogames, perfect cannon fodder for weapons of all sorts, a quality that Back 4 Blood understands perfectly. Does this co-op shooter bring life to the living dead? Or is it desperately shambling, hunting for a brain of its own?

First the elephant in the room: this game is essentially Left 4 Dead 3. Back 4 Blood makes no secret of this if the title wasn’t an indicator, then the developer’s work on the Left 4 Dead franchise with Valve would be the dead (ha) giveaway. Besides, the possibility of Valve completing a game trilogy is less likely than an actual zombie apocalypse at this point, right?

Fight of the Living Dead

As such the core gameplay is familiar. You and three buddies (or bots) have to get from A to B across a myriad of levels. These courses all have unique obstacles and aesthetic twists. Level specific impediments such as debris that needs to be cleared to progress make for excellent zombie-attracting set pieces. These stages are a hoot though performance can chug during intensive scenes.

Every survivor character (aka Cleaner) possesses unique qualities, ranging from medical expertise to movement speed. Having a specific Cleaner on your team can benefit everyone, Mom’s instant revives making her a favourite.

The Ridden have their own “heroes” too. From those that explode to those that summon more enemies to swarm you, each should be a priority target. Though some are alarmingly like Left 4 Dead stalwarts it’s the addition of enormous boss monsters that set this title apart. Though mostly optional, with running away always a viable option it’s incredibly fun to team up to take these titans down. The PVP will give you a chance to step into some monstrous roles too. Why not reverse the roles of hunter and hunted?

Dead end?

The card system is where Back 4 Blood comes into its own, for better or worse. Emphasising customisation to an exhausting degree with a huge amount of pointless stat changes takes away from the faced-paced spirit of the game’s predecessors. This extends to picking up guns on the fly, where Left 4 Dead had consistent firepower across all weapons, now you’ll have to make stat comparisons on the fly, dull decisions in the face of undead hordes. Endless notifications about daily challenges similarly irritate, vestiges of modern game design that would be better off six feet under.

The hub is similarly pointless, mostly offering a more interactive alternative to the game’s menu. The shooting range and boxing ring give a good space to muck around with pals but will quickly be forgotten about once the actual campaign is in full swing.

It’s a difficult job to fill the shoes of a neglected beloved series. Bloodstained helped starving Castlevania fans whereas Mighty No. 9 was a slap in the face for Megaman nuts. Back 4 Blood is firmly in the former category though not without its own problems. A loving recapturing of the Left 4 Dead spirit, Back 4 Blood is only let down by some unnecessary modernisation and technical hiccups. Back 4 Blood proves that there’s life left in the genre yet, despite occasionally falling apart.

Ubisoft has announced that the online mode for Watch Dogs: Legion is now available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Stadia. At no additional cost for Watch Dogs: Legion players by the way. The mode will also be coming shortly after on the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft Store on Windows PC, and Ubisoft+*, Ubisoft’s subscription service.

The online mode of Watch Dogs: Legion includes:

  • Free-roam open-world co-op where players can team up with their friends for up to four-players and explore London. Players will encounter city events, complete challenges and participate in side activities.
  • New co-op missions for two-to-four players using new co-op gameplay mechanics and giving players the opportunity to recruit the perfect team and fight back against London’s threats across the most iconic landmarks of the city.
  • The first available Player-vs-Player (PvP) mode, Spiderbot Arena, where four players control armed spider bots and compete in a high-intensity free-for-all deathmatch.

Two exclusive single-player missions for Season Pass owners are also available today:

  • Guardian Protocol: DedSec will track down an algorithm that shows that AI can sometimes override human decision. If this algorithm was to be used in weaponized drones… they would have power over life and death.
  • Not In Our Name: DedSec discovers a secret group using their name in London. These phonies are working under the orders of a ruthless tabloid owner. He then uses information stolen by this group to blackmail his notorious victims and gain power in the city.

On the 23rd of March, “Leader of the Pack,” the first four-player co-op Tactical Op which will require teamwork and efficiency will be available. More content will continue being added after launch through free updates, including Invasion PvP mode, all-new co-op missions, free characters and more.

We at GamEir were lucky enough to test out the multiplayer mode several weeks ago. And if I’m being honest all involved were quite candid about their thoughts. I highly recommend reading it. It is quite illuminating.

*£12.99 per month. Cancel anytime. The Ultimate Edition (Excluding VIP status) will be available as part of a Ubisoft+ subscription.

Team17, DevM Games, and SMG Studio have released Movers in Paradise. This is downloadable content for the award-winning couch moving, couch co-op game, Moving Out. Available to purchase on PC and consoles for $7.49/ €7.49/ £5.99, Movers in Paradise is the first premium content released for the game, adding 14 new levels set in a tropical paradise alongside an additional 10 arcade levels. There are new gameplay mechanics, and four new zany characters to choose from, together with new trophies and achievements for completionists.

Set on Packmore Island, a short boat ride from the main game’s original location of Packmore, Movers In Paradise DLC welcomes players to island life in full force; from curious crustaceans and mischievous monkeys to ensnaring foliage and rising tides, the Furniture Arrangement and Re-locations Technicians (F.A.R.Ts) have their work cut out for them. With ancient ruins hiding priceless gems, shipwrecks teeming with treasure, and zip-lines aplenty to speed up the moving process, Movers in Paradise offers up 14 new levels for players to complete, alongside 10 new arcade levels to truly test their moving prowess.

Featuring a host of colourful characters, eccentric environments, and physics-based fun, Moving Out offers up local multiplayer mayhem for up to four players, challenging them to relocate items into the waiting moving van in the quickest time. Beach appropriate attire is important for the correct handling of removal goods, and the four new movers provide just that; Tooki the toucan, Coco the coconut, Clawdius the crab, and Gilly the fish join the original cast of F.A.R.Ts.

Alongside the launch is the wider release of the free Moving In update, which flips the game’s core premise on its head and tasks players with unpacking the removals van across a dozen of Moving Out’s original levels, positioning items in the correct locations as quickly as possible. The free update, which launched last month on Amazon Luna, also adds the option for players to customise their characters shirts and debuts two new dance moves.

Moving Out Key Features

  • Couch co-op: Players can either take on Moving Out: Movers in Paradise solo or enlist the help of up to three friends in local multiplayer co-operative gameplay, as they figure out how to get items into the removals van in the quickest way possible
  • Location, location, location: No move is too big, too small, or too weird. Work through sleepy suburbs, frenzied farms, and haunted houses in the main game, or head to the tropics in Movers in Paradise
  • Physics: Need to get a large item of furniture down some steps? Gravity is a F.A.R.T’s best friend. Glass door in the way? Smash right through it. Throwing things over railings will always be quicker than carrying them the long way around
  • Character customisation: Choose from a roster of movers from humans to anthropomorphic animals and appliances that can be tailored to suit the job at hand
  • Assist mode: Increased time limits, skippable levels and removal of dangers are just some of the options available in assist mode
  • Accessibility options: Dyslexia-friendly text, scalable user interface, and remappable keyboard controls on Steam make the Moving Out experience as inclusive as possible

After its long disappearance fans had almost given up hope. However, to paraphrase Oscar Isaac, somehow Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game has returned! Nope, not the comic. Nope, not the Edgar Wright film! The beloved 2D brawler, a sort of Streets of Rage for hipsters. However a lot has changed since 2010, so how does Scott’s pilgrimage hold up?

Battle of the brands

As soon as the game boots up you’re immediately greeted with incredibly vibrant and cheery pixel art. A brilliant representation of the comics original art style as well as being unbelievably gorgeous in motion with excellent clarity. The diverse range of environments and enemies are a highlight, especially the second stage set on different movie sets.

While your eyes are being dazzled, your ears get the VIP treatment too. The music is sublime, a funky assortment of chip-tunes that just feel terrific to brawl to. Composed by Anamanaguchi it’s a sheer delight that this music is getting a new release.

The Chaos Theatre that is Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game

The actual fighting is underwhelming, a functional yet uninspired riff on the classic beat-em-up formula. A truly abysmal levelling system that gate-keeps vital moves is a stunningly bad design decision, leaving a terrible first impression. Getting knocked down is intensely frustrating, your character remaining stuck on the ground interminably. Object physics are bizarre, you can accidentally take damage from the slightest object thrown. Including some of your own!

Many of these issues are solved through unlockable moves but the annoyance of having to obtain them is very off-putting. The variety in playable characters offsets this somewhat, Ramona Flowers being a particular highlight. Smashing goons with a mallet will never grow old.

I Fought the World but the World Won

These concerns are mostly alleviated in the co-op mode. Like all games of the genre, its enjoyment is exponentially increased the more players join in. Co-op allows you to breeze through some of the worst sections whilst sharing the best parts with up to four players. Sadly the online is unreliable so you would be best off playing together in person. Extra modes such as Boss Rush and Dodge Ball are addition multiplayer highlights.

While it’s great to have a title like this preserved and it is still an exemplary example of a good film tie-in, Scott Pilgrim doesn’t really stand on its own as an entry in this genre. Indeed this rerelease is like meeting an old ex, despite some fond memories you realise just how little you really had in common after all.

Modus Games has announced Cris Tales, the indie love letter to classic JRPGs is launching this July on Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG and Stadia for $39.99. Pre-order the game now for your preferred platform.

The game also has a Collector’s Edition available for preorder here. Unfortunately, this is only shipped within the US.

The news was accompanied by a stunning new trailer that showcases just a few of the locales that Crisbell and her unique pals will be exploring during their time-hopping journey and an in-depth blog about the game’s features.

What kind of tale is Cris Tales?

Cris Tales is an era-bending JRPG where past, present and future are brought together on one screen. Players can use Crisbell’s amazing ability to slip between time periods to both aid citizens across Crystallis’ kingdoms and perform surprise attacks on enemies.

If Crisbell wants to save her magical world from the evil that threatens it, she must make use of her power to shape the past, present and future while gathering allies that will help her in her quest.

The game has been highly anticipated since its reveal at E3 2019, where it won several accolades and nominations, including Best Indie Game, and was recently nominated for Best Indie Game and Best RPG at Gamescom 2020.

Players can head to the Xbox Store, PlayStation Store, Nintendo eShop, Steam, or GOG to download the demo on their platform of choice now.
