As the final announcement of a jam-packed Nintendo Direct Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was the perfect closer. The third instalment in their massive scaled RPG series, this one looks poised to combine elements of its predecessors to make the perfect Xenoblade experience. Despite this, series executive director Tetsuya Takahashi promises it’ll also be a good starting point for series newcomers. When this releases fans will be able to play all three core games on the Switch. However excellent and ambitious Xenoblade Chronicles X remains stuck on the Wii U at present. Hopefully not for long!

The trailer promises massive landscapes and ludicrous weaponry, two important series staples. It’s unclear how combat will work this time around but it’s bound to be characteristically nutty.

Character designer Masatsugu Saito returns to the series after 2, hopefully with some more… restraint. The composers this time include veterans such as Yasunori Mitsuda, Manami Kiyota, ACE (TOMOri Kudo, CHiCO), Kenji Hiramatsu and Mariam Abounnasr. Xenoblade fans know how important the music is to these titles and this is looking to be no exception to that standard. The new protagonist uses a flute in the trailer so it seems music will be important in-universe too.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set for release this September.
