The infinite intergalactic exploration game No Man’s Sky is heading to Switch and now has a confirmed release date of the 7th of October. The seemingly impossible port will inexplicably find a handheld home at last. Millions of Switch owners will be able to explore and build but the game will launch as a single-player experience with updates to come.
Speaking of updates, this edition will launch with the six years of patches and content updates that have made the game the hit it is. Touch screen support will be included for this version and it will support docked and undocked play. Announced with a short video of Sean Murray playing, this version seems to run well for a handheld port with a few visual concessions to help it run. Murray had this to say.
“No Man’s Sky on this tiny portable device feels both completely natural and also totally improbable at the same time.”
“This has been a real moonshot for our small team. No Man’s Sky is built around procedural generation, which means the console generates everything you see. This makes it so much harder to bring our game to something like the Switch, but I think this team never seems happier than when they are trying to do near-impossible things.”
Bandai Namco will be releasing a physical edition of this Switch version. Also a physical release for PS5 for the first time!
