European Games Week comes to Ireland from the 16th – 22nd of September at Croke Park. The event will feature 7 days of gaming, with over 10,000 attendees from around the world.
Featuring industry leaders at the European Games Summit & the best gaming has to offer at the European Games Festival.
This is all great to see. Watching gaming as an industry grow between all the cons that happen across the country all over the year is brilliant. However, I want to bring up something personal, something selfish and something I think you need to know if you’re still on the fence about heading to European games Week.
It is, of course, the special guests attending European Games Week between the 21st and the 22nd of September. I don’t know if you know who is attending but here is my look at the guest roster and how important they are.
Stephanie Panisello aka Claire Redfield
That’s right folks Claire Redfield from the critical darling that is Resident Evil 2 Remake will be attending the European Games Week. Stephanie has also had roles in Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy XV Episode Ardyn. Not only the kickass Claire will be attendance though. No, no Stephanie is a part of a terrific trio.
Nick Apostolides aka Leon Kennedy
In tow with the lovely Stephanie Pannisello is Nick Apostolides. This gentleman is Leon Kennedy her partner in crime in Resident Evil 2 Remake. Along with his role in Resident Evil 2 Remake Nick was also in Life is Strange 2 and The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.
Jolene Andersen aka Ada Wong
Now along comes Jolene Andersen as the iconic third wheel in the Resident Evil franchise. That’s right Ada Wong from Resident Evil 2 Remake will be rounding out the trio from the Capcom horror franchise. Jolene also has an impressive CV as she has worked on Life is Strange 2 and Titanfall 2. Jolene will also be making an appearance in the final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. coming in 2020.
Kira Buckland aka 2B
I’ve actually met Kira. She is a dote. She’s lovely, well-spoken and is an incredible talent. She’s not just one of the most iconic modern heroes in videogames (2B from NieR: Automata) she is also in a sizeable amount of anime and games. My particular favourites include Edna in Tales of Zestiria, Rin in Blue Exorcist, and her role as Naoka Ueno in the award-winning anime film A Silent Voice. Check out my interview with Kira on the GamEir podcast and see what you think 🙂
Hedy Burress aka Yuna
This is a guest that touches my heart. To meet Hedy who was a part of the first Final Fantasy with a voice cast will be quite monumental in my opinion. Not only that it can be argued that Yuna and Tidus have one of the best romances in all of Final Fantasy. They are in a sense the ultimate tragic couple in the whole Final Fantasy franchise and for those who’ve played Final Fantasy X you know exactly what I mean. Hedy has also continued to be a part of the Final Fantasy family as Yuna continues to pop up across other FF titles including the Dissidia games and the World of Final Fantasy. Plus she was a part of The Walking Dead: The Final Season game, which is a lovely bonus.
Reuben Langdon aka Dante
Okay so being completely honest with you here. Reuben Langdon is one of the key reasons I am attending the European Games Week. The guy has played Ken Masters in Street Fighter IV, been a part of the Power Rangers franchise and even has a place in the MCU. However, it is not these roles I’m particularly interested in. No, no it is the iconic, the legendary Dante from the Devil May Cry franchise. I can’t wait to meet the man who personified ‘badass’ in videogames for me for the past 14 years (crud I’m getting on).
It’s fair to say that European Games Week will have something on for everyone and this small section of what happens during the week is what I’m excited about. So if you’re still on the fence I hoped this helped. Like many gaming conventions, European Games Week is still in its infancy. So to help our industry and to bolster talent be sure and check it out.
